Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R) plans to turn down Sen. Charles Schumers (D-N.Y.) request to testify on Arizonas controversial immigration law before Congress, her spokesman said Friday.
The spokesman, Matthew Benson, told The Hill that the timing of the hearing gave it every mark of a publicity stunt.

good for Jan. schumer is a slimeball.
BIG mistake. Here’s her chance to stand up to them. Ppl don’t pay attention as much as we do. This looks like she is ducking the issue. yeah, the RATS will slime her, but stand there and take the slime.
Have you ever watched a Senate hearing? Only Senators get to speak.
She should send AZ Attorney General Tom Horne. He would do a superb job.
I don’t blame her. I wouldn’t want to be within a 100 miles of that Nazi scumbag either. Good move Governor Brewer.
What? So witnesses don’t speak at Senate hearings? Hmmm. Photoshop?
Look, of course all Legislative hearings are nothing more than a floor show. But witnesses DO get to speak some and there have been some very effective witnesses over the decades. Sometimes, the result is nothing more than others respecting the beleaguered witness and seeing their side. It’s a chance to make your point even if you are derided by the majority.
She should appear. This looks like hiding.
Send Sheriff Joe Arpaio in her place.
Jan's outfoxed the scum on every move.
She made sure that Terry Goddard didn't sabotage her by hiring her own attorney.
When the first attorney turned out to be a clown she fired him and got one of the best guys in DC.
Instead of state money she uses donations to pursue the defense of SB1070 (rather well funded now).
And when Barack HUSSEIN (the name of the enemy) Obama shows up in her state she reads his alien butt the riot act.
She ain't playin' the Rat game. No surrender: kick em outta the way.
Jan's playing to win while the rest of the Republicans get suckered.
Awesome! It is a very bad idea for her to show up to this potential circus.
Gov Brewer does not answer to the senate. She answers to the people of Arizona.
She is already defending Arizona by arguing before the Supreme Court.
The States are not municipal reservations of the federal government. They are sovereign, and do not owe Chucky or any other scheming scum any "explanation" for the laws of their State.
If the Senate told Jerry "Geezer" Brown to show up to explain why he refuses to appeal and enforce Proposition 187, a law passed by 6 million citizens, do you think he'd give them the time of day?
No. He's the Governor of the State, and they are lowly Senators who should be reporting to him, not the other way around.
I think Ms. Brewer understands that quite clearly. It is after all one of the major tenets (supposedly) of the current crop of "Republicans" running for President.
Acquaint yourself with this concept. It's all over the Constitution of the United States (um, "the States that united"...) and even merits an explicit amendment: the 10th.
Last thing she should do is talk to any of these pukes ex parte.
If one of Schumer's staffers shows up and wants to talk about something, he or she ought to be detained by the State police and held until a US Marshall can come and retrieve him or her to be remanded to the custody of the trial court judge.
The Dems are trying to energize their Latino/Hispanic base. The hearings will be like a Stalinist show trial meant to depict the Reps as bigots and xenophobes. The Dems will feign phony outrage and disgust. The soundbites will be used in Obama’s campaign propaganda. This is strictly a lose-lose proposition for Reps.
The only time a witness is allowed to speak is when the majority party wants them to speak.
The only exception I know of is when Oliver North took over the Iran-Contra Investigation Joint Hearings in 1987.
There is no benefit to the Governor or Arizona in talking to those elites in DC and the media will only make fun of her.
Wait, maybe the Republicans had the Senate majority in 1987. I can’t remember now.
Good for her.
Chuck the Schmuck would have loaded that hearing with so much crap it would be like walking on a pile of manure.
