Mitt Romney Won't Stop Talking About Michigan Trees
Reuters ^ | 2/25/12 | Brent Lang

The Republican presidential aspirant was at it again on Friday, praising the greenery of his birth state in advance of next week's primary.

"This feels good, being back in Michigan,” Romney said during a speech in Detroit. “The trees are the right height. The streets are just right.”

The latest bout of rhapsodizing almost perfectly echoes Romney’s earlier comments about the size of the Great Lake state’s timber earlier this week.

What type of stories do you focus on when your candidate is doing well? The guy grew up there - those are the trees of his childhood. Is it an odd way to phrase it? Yes. But having FR filled with stories about Mitt’s views on trees says more negative things about the intellectual interest of a subset of individuals on FR than it does about Mitt Romney.

Mitt sure has flaws as a candidate. If I opposed his as the nominee, I’d focus on those vs. focusing on trees, a 2nd Cadillac, or his underwear.

Do you ever get the feeling that perhaps GOD is working behind the scenes in all of this ?
No amount of money will keep the people from hearing something that they already heard, or unsee something that they already seen ( his stadium debacle ).
Something that has be heard can't be unheard, and something that has been seen can't be unseen.

Agreed - he’s nuts and the stress is strating to show the cracks. I consider it a John McCain moment, where the inner crazies peek out from the void...

If a Michigan tree that’s just the right height falls in an empty Detroit football stadium, will anyone hear it?

I know he is. I get down on my knees every night and pray that the American people can pull us out of this nightmare and start to see the light.

We've been getting robocalls from the Romney campaign all day long, a lot of them are from Ann Romney. I'm happy to let them start, lift up the receiver and hang it up, money wasted by them without me listening.......

This guy's scorched earth campaigns are sick, I'm glad I have a DVR and don't have to watch his TV ads. I am going to write an email today to all my friends in MI about the Romney problem, I don't want anyone to vote without knowing about the man's pretense and lies.

The guy grew up there

What a load. He grew up in vacation homes all over the place and hasn't lived here for better than 30 years. His bizarre little speech just shows how out of touch he is and should be ridiculed.

Mitt Romney is just plain nuts.

Walnut trees are nice.

Is marijuana classified as a "tree"?

I think Mitt is severely channeling Jerry "Moonbeam" Brown of California. And maybe Neil "Gym God" Abercrombie of Hawaii.

I destest robocalls as well...but unfortunately for us they must work more than not or campaigns wouldn’t pay for them. Obama is a big robocall user so who ever our candidate is must be able to counteract the tactics Obama uses. The goal is to beat Obama.

By the polls, Romney's scorched earth tactics are working if the polls are to be believed.

It's not a good reason to like Romney.......he's destroying both conservatives left in the race through lies, distortion and pretense. In the meantime he's destroying his own ability to win the general if he succeeds, doing so by demeaning and dispiriting the GOP base.

It's sickening. I want to beat Obama as much as anyone, but this is contemptible and indefensible as a tactic.
