February 26, 2012 Christie Slams Santorum On College Stance By Leigh Ann Caldwell

(CBS News) On CBS News' "Face the Nation," New Jersey governor Chris Christie had some harsh words for Rick Santorum over statements he made about higher education. Christie said the former Pennsylvania Senator went "over the line."

Christie was asked by host Bob Schieffer about Santorum dissing President Obama for encouraging a college education.

"President Obama once said he wants everybody in America to go to college - what a snob!" Santorum said in Troy, Michigan Saturday.

"I think that's probably over the line," Christie told Schieffer: "I don't think the president is a snob for saying that."

Christie, who is supporting Mitt Romney, said Santorum's position on higher education doesn't "make any sense." He noted that not every child wants to attend college, but "we should aspire to let every child reach his maximum or her maximum potential."

Saint Rick is trying too hard to sound conservative, so he says inane stuff like this. As long as it sounds Newtonian, he rolls with it. The problem is that since he doesn’t really understand it, it comes out in goofy ways. It’s too easy to paint this as a “we want all kids to have the option to go to college” and Saint Rick as sounding simply out of touch in his soundbyte.

Why not just make the preceeding 12 years of education worth a damn so we don’t have to feel like we need to have another four years to catch up?

Rick is right. Not everyone should go to college. Tech schools should be booming but contractors cant find anyone to fill slots.
Every college kid I talk to say all they do is drink and smoke pot. Like 4 more years of high school but only they dont have parents around.

The more I hear Christie mouth off, the more I dislike him. Rick is right on this one. Not everyone is cut out for college.

Not at all. You need to know the liberal mindset and Obama’s notion of superiority and elitism. Santorum called it like it is. Unlike Gingrich’s permanent moon colony stuff, Santorum isn’t one who is likely to self-implode with erratic off-the-cuff comments.

"Mitt and I have your back and will protect you.
Just like in 2008 and 2010. We will send more pizza.
We so love you and ObamaCARE/RomneyCARE."

“Why on Earth is Romney using his donors’ money
to feed ObamaBOTs working against the GOP?”

Mitt Romney Sends Leftover Pizza to Obama Chicago HQ
After spending the day in Chicago fundraising, Mitt Romney
sat down with small business owners at Gino's East,
a pizza joint famous for their deep-dish pizza.
In fact, Romney himself tweeted a photo of a
delivery boy heading out with the loot, writing,
"Great deep dish at @ginoseast.
Sending the extra slices to @barackobama and his Chicago HQ team."

Christie's problem in with slamming Santorum is.......well, he's wrong.

With an FAA A&P license, FCC Radiotelephone license in Avionics.....I can realize more earning potential than the majority of college graduates and I possess something that actually is value added to the infrastructure that everyone takes for granted daily.

Infrastructure doesn't repair itself.

My education has opening many doors and possibilities and I can more than compete for positions that state a desire for an AS/BS degree......or, equivalent experience.

I graduated prior to vocational schools shifting to an AS degree, yet, this hasn't hampered my ability to be gainfully employed.

It's a tough life, college kids are not going to be able to do the really necessary work.

Wow, the stock of that literal and figurative RINO from NJ is plunging with conservatives.

My question is what does the rhetoric “let every child reach his maximum or her maximum potential” actually MEAN????

Is Christie contending that if the federal government did not FINANCE ALL THE KID’S COLLEGE - then we the people are NOT “letting them reach their potential”?

I’m sick and tired of this B.S. notion that we OWE anyone LOANS or GRANTS to ANYONE.

How the hell many college kids WORK while in college as a percentage? I know I worked through college - and I did NOT qualify for grants.

Following this ridiculous logic, why should it only be supposed that the tax-pater NOT paying for COLLEGE is not “letting them reach their potential”?

That’s prejudicial. What about the high school kid who has worked at Subway for a few years and has “Shift Manager” status? If the government is paying tens of thousands of dollars in GRANTS (money that doesn’t have to be paid back) on top of $57,000 in low interest loans to basically anyone who has a social security number - then why doesn’t the Subway employee have a right to seed money of $20,000 on top of $57,000 in business loans?

How can you not let THEM reach their full potential Governor?

I better be careful with the anology because it might end up in Obama’s next campaign platform.

This guy Christie must REALLY never want to be President because his schoolboy crush on Mitt has severely tarnished his reputation outside of the Liberal eastern seaboard.

Rick Santorum had it 100% correct.

“Not at all. You need to know the liberal mindset and Obama’s notion of superiority and elitism.”

I know all about it, probably in ways better than Santorum.
Not too many people are going to understand Saint Rick’s point from the few seconds that will be repeated over and over again. Instead of destroying the media, he gives them ammunition. I suspect it is because his deliveries are forced as opposed to natural. You don’t see these kinds of remarks being taken from Newt’s speeches, and he’s given a few dozen of them it feels like within the past 24 hours.

That speech Newt gave at the NRA vs Santorum’s 2nd Amendment speech is a good example of this. Newt went into great historical depth, noting the origins of the 2nd amendment and it’s true reason for existence (not hunting or target practice). Santorum gives the same speech, and talks about hunting and target practice, and not the true reason for its existence.

It’s the difference between giving conservative talking points and understanding them with significant depth. Conservatives don’t know who they’re actually supporting in Rick Santorum. They are projecting their own hopes and dreams, but are not giving an objective analysis.

“Unlike Gingrich’s permanent moon colony stuff, Santorum isn’t one who is likely to self-implode with erratic off-the-cuff comments.”

The Moon Colony proposal was actually a pretty good idea and something worth pursuing in the future. There was nothing “erratic” about it, and it is something he has talked about going back years in the past. What was erratic was when Rick Santorum emotionally belched, with the usual whine in his voice, about Newt being crass, irresponsible, pandering, a big spender, and suggesting he is dishonest for even bringing it up.

Santorum is correct on his assessment of the Obama desire for a college degree for everyone.

Obama’s education plan is to dumb down a college education so that everyone IS capable of getting a degree, though perhaps not capable of earning it.

Obama said in one of his commencement addresses that we’ve been throwing money at public education for years and it’s not working, White students are still out performing Black and other minority students on tests, so we have to try something different.

Its really quite amazing how many people have this bizarre fantasy that the factory of today is some kind of George Jetson fantasy. They really believe that today’s factory worker sits in an air conditioned office and directs bustling robots producing perfect parts all day long.

The fact is that a lot of the highly technical jobs they claim require college degrees aren’t beyond the ability of someone who can read and write. I’m a high school dropout who was a successful foreman who learned to program, operate and maintain a bank of robo painters. I did that along with directing 15 human painters, keeping daily inventories, ever shifting parts orders, keeping manning lists etc.

There will always be a need for college educated people who push us into the future but we’ll always require an even larger force of wrench turners to do the actual work.

I will concede that Gingrich is better informed. He’s an excellent historian and is well read. That said, you know all too well how his “permanent moon colony” speech went? It was panned all around and was the stuff of SNL. But go take a look of Santorum’s brilliant speech made some years ago when he dissected JFK’s speech on separation of church and state.

The guy who made his, now rapidly shrinking, reputation by attacking the big (liberal) education establishment at his state level is complaining when a national candidate is attacking the big (liberal) education establishment at the national (and the state!) level? Christie is just supersized his hypocrisy. What Santorum is saying is long overdue in the national discourse.
