In his budget address on Tuesday, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie proposed cutting income taxes to make the state more competitive in the race for jobs and investment. But even as Christie struggles to improve the business environment, Democrats and some Republicans in Trenton are working to undermine it with a proposal to boost the state’s minimum hourly wage to $8.50 from $7.25 and then index future increases to inflation.
Their proposal, rapidly gaining steam, mirrors one that Democrats in Albany are pushing Gov. Cuomo to endorse.
Supporters tout the move — which would give Jersey one of the highest minimum wages in the country — as “stimulus.” Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver even said that raising the minimum wage would give lower-income families thousands more dollars to spend. What she failed to mention is that it would do so at the cost of perhaps tens of thousands of jobs.

There is no end to the ignorance of some Democrats and the outright lies of the rest. When the minimum wage is raised, people probably don't lose their jobs. But you can be sure that fewer minimum wage positions will be advertised in the future.
It's why your average McDonalds has more electronic gear than the original Star Trek and why self-service checkouts are here to stay no matter how many people don't like them. The socialists are wiping out any chance for people with no skills to find a job at all.

An industrious business owner would turn the tables and make those jobs...true service jobs.
Forget minimum wage...they work for tips and split tips with the cook staff.
It depends where you live. It is certainly doable in flyover country..
If they really wanted to reduce unemployment, a good first step would be to make people under 21 exempt from minimum wage.
Arguments about "You can't support a family on $xx" ring hollow when we're talking about young people still living with their parents.

I agree completely. The Democrats, though, would pretend that it would harm the economy because the workers would have less to spend. And public opinion would agree with them.

Make that 26 years old. Obamabots have already agreed folks are dependent children up to that age by requiring their parent’s insurers to cover them medically.
