A Santorum win in Michigan could be chaos for GOP

The Republican presidential race faces a potential turning point on Tuesday in contests in Arizona and Michigan, where upstart Rick Santorum threatens to plunge an already unpredictable nominating battle into chaos.

Mitt Romney, the former front-runner and presumed nominee, and Santorum are in a close race in Michigan, the state where Romney was raised and his father was an auto executive and popular governor.

A Santorum win there would be a devastating blow to Romney, turning lingering doubts about his ability to win the allegiance of Republican primary voters into a deep panic in the party's senior ranks.

"If Santorum pulls off the upset in Michigan it turns the entire race on its head," said Republican Dan Schnur, an aide to Senator John McCain during his 2000 presidential bid. "There aren't going to be a lot of people who have much use for a front-runner who can't win his home state."

But Republicans worry about the general election viability of Santorum, a staunch conservative who has courted controversy with a burst of comments on social issues like birth control, pre-natal testing and women in the military.

Santorum's rise and Romney's weakness have sparked speculation about more contenders jumping into a Republican race that could last all the way to a brokered convention in August. The Michigan result could shift that speculation into overdrive.

"A Santorum win in Michigan takes all of the talk about a new candidate or a brokered convention and puts it on steroids," Republican strategist Todd Harris said.

“To all those who think three out of five contestants for the office of president not being Natural Born Citizens is just coincidence, Send me five thousand dollars and I will guarantee 100% return every year. Hurry, only limited openings.”

Pray tell, just who among the candidates (other than Obama) do you think is NOT a natural born citizen?

Why should Smart give up? Smart won a real state with real electorate votes. If Holy wouldn’t have caved in the debate, Richy wouldn’t be winning. How about asking Crazy to quit.

Dude, Rubio is NOT a candidate. And by what measure do you think Romney & Santorum are not NBCs? Do you even know what makes a person a natural born citizen?

If 78% are voting for decidedly big government candidates, they are not polling conservative candidates. (44%+34%)

Even you should be able to figure that out.

“There is also an anybody but Newt crowd out there,or do you ignore that? You newtereds are hilarious.” If you believe that cr*p, you’re in direct agreement with the mainstream media, & GOPe. Good Luck, and I hope that helps.

If you have verifiable evidence that Santorum and Mitts are not natural born citizens, then you should share this information with us. I have scanned snope, ask.com other sources and find no affirmation to your claim.
Things are bad as they get, don't add to the problem. I'm not beating on you. I just want to know the source of your claim. It would obviously be important to many here as well as elsewhere.

Neat and orderly...the next in line... got us Dole, Bush, McCain...We could use a little chaos right about now. And conservative, if you could work a little of that in as well...it'd be nice. Someone who hates DC...stuff like that.

“No, I’ll not be zotted for observing Santorum as a loser.”

Possibly, but you will sure look the fool when Santorum ends up the nominee...

Romney is an also-ran, he just simply generates no enthusiasm - and his record of supporting liberal causes is egregious.

What is going to happen eventually IMHO is this:

Bishop Mitt Romney will to some extent continue on the juggernaut, but again a lot of his guys are tapping out and he might have to resort to relying on anti-Conservative scorched earth RINO PAC for the remaining big $$$.

The force however, to stop him this campaign, will be none other than ****RICK SANTORUM**** and his millions of grassroots tea party, church going, gun owning, marriage oath-keeping supporters.

The final undecideds of conservatism will go with RICK SANTORUM as the "anti- Romney" we have been culling now for six months (as much as I personally had hoped it were Herman Cain!).

Support for Newt Gingrich will not grow and will dry up. He will still fight, but make little headway.

The rationale for supporting Newt Gingrich as the anti-Romney that may have been out there five, six weeks ago, will have evaporated.

It will be SANTORUM vs. the ROMNEY/PAUL TAG TEAM.

In the end, conservatives will prevail, however, BEFOR SEN. SANTORUM becoming the 2012 GOP nominee, he will have one final headache or rather crisis or fiery hoop to jump through, and that will be a RINO DARKHOUSE brought out from mothballs by the Big Powers That Be to replace de-crowned Mitt and attempt to derail Santorum and those crazy "Goldwater Republicans" at the last moment. I swear this is so much like Establishment Vs. Grassroots 1964 and 1976/80 battles, it isn't even funny.

Thankfully, though, it has a good end.

Then we set up the tee for the big 500 yard drive right into Obama Territory and we have the clearest choice in the Century. Whether the Republic Lives, with President Santorum, or Whether it Dies, with President Obama.
