Gingrich takes aim at Santorum, sees impossible task in Afghanistan
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | February 27, 2012 | Jeremy Redmon

NASHVILLE – Newt Gingrich went on the offensive against Rick Santorum during a campaign swing through Tennessee Monday, calling him a “big Labor Republican” and predicting his surging opponent’s fortunes will quickly change amid a chaotic race that could remain competitive all the way to the Republican National Convention in August.

Gingrich, who has said he must do well in the Southern states to win the GOP nomination, also predicted he would win the Alabama and Mississippi primaries next month.

Turning to the escalating violence in Afghanistan, the former Georgia congressman said the United States is facing an impossible task there.

“We are not going to fix Afghanistan. It is not possible,” he told a large group of Republicans at an afternoon luncheon here. “These are people who have spent several thousand years hating foreigners. And what we have done by staying is become the new foreigners.

“This is a real problem. And there are some problems where you have to say, ‘You know, you are going to have to figure out how to live your own miserable life… because you clearly don’t want to learn from me how to be unmiserable. And that is what you are going to see happen.”

He sure is the TRUE LEADER we need at this time.

We need wisdom, not pretty/handsome. I want substance in our leader and NEWT has what it takes.

Now watch Rick and Mitt scramble to climb on board with this and make it their issue. Newt is always one step ahead of them, while they are out debating his last issue, Newt brings up a new idea. rofl.

There is no way they can out think him.

Thank you for sharing your links.

I watched them both. Newt is right about Santorum.

Like Palin said, records do matter. Go, Newt.

Taking it to Santorum and Romney with the gloves off is the way to do it. One wonders, however, if it isn’t too late?

And before the Santorum supporters cry foul with Newt’s quotes against Santorum in this article:

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2012/02/01/rick_santorum_gingrich_not_a_true_conservative.html

“”The Florida results are in and despite spending millions Newt Gingrich went form a big lead to a big defeat. Why? Because voters discovered Gingrich wasn’t a true conservative. Like Romney, Gingrich supported the Wall Street bailout, job-killing cap and trade, and radical healthcare mandates. Gingrich even supports giving some illegals amnesty,” a radio ad on behalf of Rick Santorum says.”

This ad is approved by Rick Santorum himself. I say, live by the nasty ads, he should lose by the nasty ads. It’s biblical, so Rick shouldn’t complain. At least Newt’s quotes are accurate! I’ve noticed Santorum’s tendency to praise Unions or the “working man” (as if we don’t all work) for awhile now. His previous anti-Right to Work vote, and also his tax plan, fit the pattern.

So is he a big labor Republican, or are MI voters going to vote on the belief that he is, even if he’s not, or are they going to vote on a comment that he is, by Newt Gingrich campaigning in the South?

Nonsensical post.

And Santorum supported Mitt Romney in 2008.

It is about time Newt took the gloves off instead of protecting Santorum to play the odds against Romney.

I was wondering if Santorum’s union pandering legislation was forever going to be buried, clouded over by all the conservative smoke blowing by Rick launching into the minutiae of contraception.

That strategy kept every conservative applauding his principled stand, and off the scent of his legislative track record.

That trail, by the way, had what family values included when Rick was in a position to advance them?

Obfiscate, distract and delay has been at work here and Newt has said nothing.

It is time.

I think many have reached the same conclusion as Newt w/regard to Afghanistan.

Destroying the threat to our national security harbored there was justified; anything beyond that, regardless of grandiose schemes for “nation building” or moral proselytizing of the need for “allowing Mrs Muhammad to vote,” as Michael Scheuer recently quipped, is inevitably doomed to failure and the increasing wasteful loss of our valiant warriors; not to mention time, effort, equipment and national treasure.

My hubby just listened to that ad and laughed.

No wonder people call him Saint Ricky.

He will do anything to get votes. Sorry, I can't support this kind of dishonesty.

Nice of Newt to do that the night before Michigan and Arizona. I bet Newt would rather have Romney has the candidate. Why else would he be concentrating only on Georgia a state that he should have locked up without campaigning. Oh well one state wonder bashing Santorum is sad and desperate.
