A busload of whiners from Miami (including the superintendent) went to protest the proposed rule, and the board caved. Apparently the idea that only 25% of kids read at their grade level is an OUTRAGE!

In other words, 25% is now NOT a failing grade for Florida's schools.

The problem is that honest grading systems for students and schools must inevitably expose painful racial disparities in student achievement and instructional quality. Gradually, the truth is being confronted though, with Florida’s testing and grading slowly becoming more rigorous and revealing.
