Mitt Romney, facing money challenges, aggressively seeks donations

BEXLEY, Ohio — Mitt Romney, eager to capitalize on his primary-election victories this week, is aggressively pushing for new donations to offset his presidential campaign’s heavy spending and is erecting battle stations in upcoming Super Tuesday states.

Amid a nominating season that has seen little momentum from race to race, Romney is now trying to build some. His advisers argue that he is finally gaining a meaningful lead, and other Republicans say his triumphs in Michigan and Arizona on Tuesday should quell talk of a late-entering candidate in the race.

Obama campaign accuses Koch brothers-funded conservative group Americans for Prosperity of faking its grassroots support.

“Governor Romney is on track to win the GOP nomination, and it is getting harder to see a path to the nomination for any of his rivals,” Romney campaign pollster Neil Newhouse wrote in a memorandum to reporters Wednesday.

"Money has become an acute challenge for Romney, who was forced to devote significant resources to fending off Rick Santorum and his other GOP rivals in February. The former Massachusetts governor had less than $8 million on hand at the end of January and has almost certainly burned through most or all of that since then."

Apparently, it's not all roses in the Romney camp. This is what happens when you spend your loot trashing your opponents.

Money has become an acute challenge for Romney

Wait. I thought Romney's war chest made him unbeatable. Now it's hurting?

So the master of business who would become the budgeter in chief of the US can't foresee that if he keeps spending money like crazy, he'll run out.

But he's still the front runner by most estimates. I think we're in a LOT of trouble.

Lemme see, do I want the Presidency or that $50 million to figure out if I'll get a chance to get my ass beat by Obama?

That's a tough one.

That flip-flopping Massachusetts liberal has to out spend his competition 6:1 or more to have a chance.

Obama campaign accuses Koch brothers-funded conservative group Americans for Prosperity of faking its grassroots support.

From what I have heard of ads, the Americans for Prosperity PAC doesn't condone anyone. They just want us to pick a conservative.

So apparently in order for Romney to get 40% of the Republican vote anywhere, he has to outspend his opponent 5-1 and count on surreptitious support from Ron Paul and his PACs as well.

Think about those kind of metrics in the context of the general election against Obama and ask yourself how Mitt has any prayer of winning that.
