Holder loses cool during House hearing when asked about Fast and Furious
The Daily Caller ^ | 2/29/12 | Matthew Boyle

A visibly frustrated Attorney General Eric Holder slammed the table when responding to a question about Operation Fast and Furious during a Tuesday budget hearing before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies.

“That was a fundamentally flawed program, fundamentally flawed,” Holder said of Fast and Furious. “And, I think that I can agree with some of my harshest critics that there are legitimate issues that need to be explored with regard in which the way Fast and Furious was carried out.”

“But, I think one thing that also has to be understood is that once this was brought to my attention” — Holder said before slamming his hand on the committee room table he was sitting at — “I stopped it. I stopped it.”

During an interview with Fox News host Megyn Kelly shortly after Holder’s comments, House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. Darrell Issa — the lead congressional investigator into the Fast and Furious scandal with Sen. Chuck Grassley — said he and others in Congress don’t think Holder is telling the full truth.

“Well, certainly one of the reasons we doubt the legitimacy of that claim is, on Feb. 4 [2011], we received what was in fact an untruthful, a lie, a false letter that has now been retracted,” Issa said. “Lanny Breuer, one of his chief aides and number three at Justice, was in Mexico lobbying for more gun-walking. Additional evidence shows that [U.S. agent] Jaime Zapata was killed with a similar program weapon. In other words, this was a policy change that happened and continued up until fairly recently. We need to get to the bottom of it.”

In addition, Issa said that if Holder wants to show he’s cooperating with the congressional investigation and is interested in really ending gun-walking,

The BUCK STOPS AT YOUR DESK, Mr. Holder.

To say, "once you found out about it, you stopped it", don't work.

Nothing does or should have gone out without your OK, if it did it only means you are too incompetent for the job, you think we're stupid? don't answer that

with 103 congresspeople and 2 senators agreeing, that isn’t going to happen. In fact, the sad truth is, probably nothing at all is going to happen.

How much more money and time are they going to spend on this. They know what was done and these people should be held accountable (that is a big laugh as no one in Washington is ever held accountable).

It is kind of sad that the AG thinks “I stopped it when I heard about it” is an acceptable excuse for a massive illegal federal weapons program. (Even if it weren’t a lie - as it is.)

Should we all try that on our taxes? What about - speeding tickets “oh - thank you officer - I wil lslow down now that I know I was speeding”.

Holder is like a whiny child.

I’ll see what that number grows to after odumbo loses and is out of office and the presidential pardon which would make any conviction moot is off the table before making that decision.

Flat out lie.

Here is a petition to call for Eric Holder's prosecution.

How long does it take an Attorney General to get the name of the DoJ subordinate who authorized a given operation or policy?

What kind of CEO would wait over a year to find out which floor manager in his production plant decided to cancel the installation of a key component in their product?

Is Eric Holder in charge of the DoJ or what?

(all rhetorical questions)

Just another diversion to buy time. If Holder survives until the election, he’s either out due to a political change or Obama can find an excuse to replace him. Goal is to keep him from embarrassing the administration and Repubs seem content with playing the delay game. I guess they fear the “race card” too much to take action.

I had no idea about this hearing. It received little coverage and only discovered it by accident.

I once saw a video which I’m having difficulty locating now. It was of Holder having a press conference speaking about F&F. I believe the date was around spring 2010. He was excitedly talking about this ‘new program’ they’ve come up with. I’m about 99% positive he used the words ‘fast and furious’.

If you come across it or someone recalls seeing it, I’d appreciate a ping. I’ve been looking on youtube, and can’t locate it there, either.

I remember listening to Holder name this program (~ 2010) about two years before the hearing (in 2012) wherein he claimed he’d only just learned of it several months before.

Thanks for any help

Item 2...March 2010/keenly aware of all aspects of Operation Fast and Furious

This is reminiscent of about the date and part of the language I believe I recall having heard in the video.
