Observations:

Disclaimer: I'm a divorced, single, 56 year old Evangelical Christian ... loves America the Beautiful and History ...

Ted Turner is probably emotionally LOST in the woods, having lost the "love of his life" Jane Fonda (I'm not endorsing her, BTW, certainly not my type by a couple of light-years) ...

Losing one's "Love of Their Life" ... either through abandonment, death, infidelity or sickness ...

is a soul-wrenching experience ...

Whether that "Love" be a romantic partner, child, career, profession, business, elected office, military battle, best friends, a cherished home ... and even the love of our parents and brothers or sisters ...

Money, and obscene amounts of it ... are Ted's anethesia to his life's great disappointments ... and that money purchases:

1) Beautiful, Intelligent Women's company (dinners and intimacy) ...

Yet, even the desired pronouncements of an "I love You" are empty phrases, literally bought by the pound ... as Shakespeare lamented in "The Merchant of Venice" ...

2) Beautiful houses and gardens, filled to the brim with the best art work, beach and mountain views ... cleaned and maintained by a regiment of nameless, faceless "drones" ... with titles like .... Chef, Butler, Cleaning Lady, Pool Man, and Gardener ...

3) World-wide travels (on a whim) to "anywhere" ...

To the point that another (dreary) visit to Rome's Cistine Chapel is like the "rest of us" driving up to Publix or Wal-Mart for the week's groceries ...

As I'm writing this, "Citizen Kane" comes to mind ... and the huge Fireplace that appears in different scenes of the movie ... growing larger each time ...

Myself, Citizen Kane, Ted Turner ... all need to read Ecclesiastes sometimes ... perhaps once a year ...

"Vanity, Vanity ... All is Vanity ..."

I don't write this as a smug "Baptist" criticism of Ted Turner ...

Rather that Ted Turner ... like Howard Hughes, Madonna, and Tiger Woods ...

Have missed Life Greatest Blessings ... confusing great sex with genuine intimacy, and mega-millions with genuine peace and contentment ...

We all need to be careful to "not" walk down those same deceptive paths ... starting with myself ...
