I have 1 friend and 1 online aquaintance who have cars that get better mileage than the volt. The first one is a 12 year old Jetta TDI. It gets approx 40 MPG, and it's been paid for for 7 years. The other guy has a 1958
AMC Rambler that gets 32 to 35 MPG with a flathead six and 3 speed manual. The volt is a non- solution to a problem that has repeatedly already been solved.

A VW with a small turbo diesel cruising at 70 on the interstate gets far in excess of 40 mpg. The Germans are going to bring in their small diesels and raise hell in the market.
The small turbo diesel will prevail adequately to disrupt the market. BMW,Mercedes, and VW building in the south will capture enough of the market to destroy Detroit.
American diesels are made by truck and machine companies engine who are so far behind on technology they will never catch up.
