Obama asks to give commencement speech at NY women's college
By Amie Parnes - 03/03/12 11:25 AM ET
President Obama will address the graduates of Barnard College at this year's commencement, The Hill has confirmed.
Obama will deliver the keynote address at the women's college in New York on May 14.
The White House called the college in recent days and offered up Obama as the commencement speaker and the college promptly accepted. Originally, New York Times executive editor Jill Abramson was set to address the graduates before the White House called the college.
The president and his fellow Democrats have made women a focus of their campaigns of late.
Obama recently found himself in the middle of a contraception debate, after his administration issued a rule requiring health insurers including some religious organizations such as charities and hospitals to cover contraception without a co-pay.
After an outcry from religious leaders, he offered a compromise with what he called a more "sensible approach," which did not satisfy all the critics.
"Whether you're a teacher...or a nurse or a janitor, no woman's health should depend on who she is of where she works or how much money she makes," Obama said when announcing his administration's revised policy. "Every woman should be in control of the decisions that affect her own health. Period."
On Friday, the president waded deeper into the controversy, when he called to offer his support for Sandra Fluke, a Georgetown law student targeted by Rush Limbaugh for her testimony in defense of the administration's policy.
Obama told Fluke she had been the subject of inappropriate personal attacks after Limbaugh referred to her as a slut and a prostitute during his show.
A White House official told The New York Times, which first reported the story Saturday, that "as the father of two daughters, President Obama wanted to speak to some of America's next generation of women leaders."
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, actress Meryl Streep and Facebook chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg were all commencement speakers in recent years.
More pandering from the “Panderer in Chief”.
Why is he giving a speech at a barn yard?
I read this morning that the States are dropping Family Planning funding (birth control pills) left, right and center.
First the lefts' green platform is falling to pieces...now feminism is losing support all over the place. The democratic party is eroding before our eyes.
Well they’re certainly all in on going for the women’s vote to win the election. Strange to have a political system dependent upon single women. But hey as long as American Idol starts on time.
So the President called an asked them if he could speak there.
Looks like he is going to give another speech on killing babies and free contraception.
Will he take the Flucke-r there with him.Sounds like thay are all about to get the slut speech.
Has any president ever asked for this job before? If not, this guy is the biggest loser in the world.
Merryl Streep already gave the slut speech there for the class of 2010. I wish it had rained that day instead of the next day.
He thinks this ‘contraception’ thing will stil be a hot topic by then?
it is already reaching the ‘ridicule’ stage
The Democrats are losing the women’s vote.
I can’t conceive of a worse pool of left-wing women than Barnard College.
Commencement = Campaign Speech.
The president is a dildo.
“Obama Tours Tornado Damage”
Oh, wait. That was from 2011.
http://www.hindustantimes.com/world-news/americas/Obama-tours-tornado-damage/Article1-691504.aspx
There are no reports of 0bama calling or doing anything regarding the tornados and deaths of this last week. It’s all about slutty women, the women’s vote, and asking to give commencement speeches—at one women’s college, anyway.
But calling governors or expressing concern for the townsfolk and deaths from the tornados of the last week? Nope. Nothing.
Don’t post such things to me. It is very offensive.
I am waiting for your apology.
That is disgusting.
I’m sorry. It’s a reflection on the low culture we live in and indicative of how we have come to have this man as our President.
Thanks. I’m surprised at some of the things that come out of my mouth these days, LOL.
