Rush: “I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke”; Update: Ironic tweet of the day
Hotair ^ | 03/03/2012 | ED MORRISSEY

Posted on 03/03/2012 8:32:15 PM PST by SeekAndFind

Rush Limbaugh has posted a statement on his website this afternoon, forwarded by his brother David (one of my friends on line), apologizing for calling Sandra Fluke an insulting name while discussing her claims. It’s impossible to retain the context of his apology by excerpting it, so I hope Rush will not mind me posting it in its entirety:

For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.

I think it is absolutely absurd that during these very serious political times, we are discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress. I personally do not agree that American citizens should pay for these social activities. What happened to personal responsibility and accountability? Where do we draw the line? If this is accepted as the norm, what will follow? Will we be debating if taxpayers should pay for new sneakers for all students that are interested in running to keep fit?In my monologue, I posited that it is not our business whatsoever to know what is going on in anyone’s bedroom nor do I think it is a topic that should reach a Presidential level.

My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir. I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.

I think Rush did the right thing in apologizing to Fluke. However, let’s keep in mind that it was Fluke who made her sexual activity a matter of national political debate by insisting that the government pass laws and regulations forcing employers and insurers to provide her free contraception, and apparently as much as she and others demand. It’s Republicans who believe that contraception should remain a private affair, and that employers and insurers should be free to decide whether to cover contraception for their employees and customers or not. Democrats used Fluke to demand that those choices be stripped from private enterprises and instead be forced by the executive branch to entirely subsidize contraception.

That is the argument we should be making, as Republicans and conservatives. If you want your sexual choices to remain private, don’t use the government to force other people to subsidize them. Then we won’t have to turn the sex lives of Georgetown law school students into topics for political speculation.

Update: Along those same lines, does Donna Brazile also now oppose the government mandate to force employers and insurers to have a role in the decision to use contraception? She tweeted this message not too long ago (via Keder):

Agree! The government should have no role in contraception, and shouldn’t force employers or insurers to have a role in it, either. Keep it between the woman, her sexual partner, and her doctor. Well said.

Oh, wait, Brazile meant this in support of the mandate? She seems just as badly misinformed on the issue as her media colleagues … or as deliberately obtuse.

I was EXTREMELY disappointed to hear that Rush had issued an apology. I have been listening to him for years, even got in on his show once during the Kerry run.

I assumed that he got some political pressure to issue something that sounded like an apology just to get this nonsense off the table. The narrative needs to get off of these stupid issues, and fast. The “apology” allows the candidates to turn the discussion over to the real issues.

That same political block who may cause harm to his advertisers also vote. They are the votes that, unfortunately, will be needed to get rid of the imposter living in the White House.

Rush having to issue an apology may be considered losing a small battle, but it if helps win the war, it’s worth it.

"She wants me to pay for her recreational sex so, maybe she’s not a slut but she’s still a whore."

She would be a whore if you got the benefit of the sex- but she doesnt want you to pay her to have sex with you, she wants you to pay for her to have sex with OTHER PEOPLE

RE: , “Go and sin no more” but what has that got to do with it?

Well, for one, since Jesus’ name was mentioned, let’s ask ourselves if he should apologize to the woman for calling what she did sin...

Would Ms. Fluke consider sleeping with people you are not married to, sinful?

And remember, JESUS name was brought up, so His demands on our moral lives have to be taken into consideration.

So, what does that make people who pay for her recreational sex?

Bob, I hear what you’re saying. If he were speaking to only you and me, I doubt that this would generate much in the way of controversy. Unfortunately, when this hits the Sunday shows and gets mentioned in numerous Demo fundraising events it ceases to be satire. Labeling somebody a ‘slut’ or a ‘whore’ is not satire, it is polemic(i.e. Ann Coulter). I’m sure that you can find a fair number of women who are ready willing and able to vote for conservative Republicans who are very uncomfortable about calling someone who is not in the public eye these names. Even Rush can’t afford to write off his best sponsors.

BTW many people who are not idiots, but rather just inattentive, will never get it because they will never hear the whole thing. Some of these are folks who are not his listening audience today but are folks who may listen a week, month or years from now.

And, oh yeah, love Al Stewart. Favorite is Road to Moscow.

RE: I have seen NO evidence that she has claimed to be 23.

All that has been shown is a March 1 NBC report where a reporter identified her as 23...Do you trust NBC?

For sure...I think its not a coincidence that she was originally scheduled to testify on Feb 23...Somehow, someone got their search or transcript mixed up.

Everything is about Money like you said AND the hypocrisy of Personal Destruction AND Political Correctness defined by the LEFT.

‘They’ can use the N word, and the C word and the H-Hitler- word. ‘They’ can demonize and destroy and move next door to you. ‘They’ can draw you in their crosshairs while taking away your guns. ‘They’ can deny you the words ‘they’ use every day. It is only hate speech when it comes from our mouths. And we are the only racists.

We have come to the point where the First Amendment is secure only in ‘Their’ hands. It only protects ‘Them.’

This is why Breitbart is our true hero. He would not be stripped of his right to speak and shout it from the rafters. He was not cowed by money. He got in ‘their’ face and never backed down. He died at the ripe old age of 86 because he poured the life and energy of two days into the time we call one day of ours.

“Political Correctness does not legislate tolerance; it only organizes hatred.” jacques barzun

I’m ‘N’ ‘C’ ‘H’ MAD right now!
And I want a First Amendment for Conservatives.

RE: You condemn the sin, not the sinner.

But if the sinner continues to sin, what does one call the actor ?

If a woman continues to commit adultery and insists that it is the right thing to do, and furthermore insists that we pay for the act, what does one call her?

...”no term for men engaging in the same behavior...”

There didn’t used to be. Now the term “man whore” is used to refer to promiscuous men by the 20 something aged population. I know this because I have daughters in their early 20’s.

Personally, I just ignore the person. Some would pass out church literature. I can’t account for others.

Why “supposed Christians”? Jesus clearly told the men stoning the woman caught in adultery not to condemn her unless they were free from sin themselves. However, he told her to sin no more, meaning he did not condone the behavior. It is not hypocritical to condemn Fluke’s behavior, or even label it for what it is. It it would be wrong for a Christian to personally judge.

I agree with what you say but my point is Rush called her a slut (which I agree she is, by the way) but name calling is just as sinful as what Ms. Fluke did and will most likely continue to do. The right thing to do is apologize for the personal assault. This doesn’t in any way ignore the behavior, just forgiving the sinner.

I still thnk Rush was right in labeling her a prostitute.

pros·ti·tute  (prst-tt, -tyt)
n.
1. One who solicits and accepts payment for sex acts.
2. One who sells one’s abilities, talent, or name for an unworthy purpose.
tr.v. pros·ti·tut·ed, pros·ti·tut·ing, pros·ti·tutes
1. To offer (oneself or another) for sexual hire.
2. To sell (oneself or one’s talent, for example) for an unworthy purpose.

Definition 2 definitely fits.

"Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment" John 7:24

Your discernment meter needs calibration because you call Jesus convoluted and an outright liar.

Where was the male caught in adultery? Was she in fact guilty based on conclusive evidence? Was anyone who picked up a stone silently committing adultery himself?

Has anyone admonishing Fluke stood up in front of a democrat panel and explain individuals should have their fornication subsidized? Where any freepers admonishing Fluke promoting fornication themselves?

Prove it or quit taking the Bible out of context. Apparently you are the one who has picked up the stone and tossed the rock at fellow freepers.

You don't use the word regardless of what she might be! It's derogatory in every sense. Rush was trying to be funny and inappropriately chose the wrong vernacular!

He said it right in his apology. That's his genius. It would have made more sense and not been a big deal if he had called her a "floozy!"
