HotAir ^ | March 5, 2012 | Ed Morrissey

Posted on 03/05/2012 6:49:26 AM PST by katiedidit1

Looks like the race towards Super Tuesday is revving up to high speed — and what does a high-speed race need? Lots of gas. After Mitt Romney criticized Newt Gingrich yesterday for “pandering” by promising a specific price of gasoline at a specific time, Gingrich reached back into his January strategy and blasted Romney for being too rich to care about gas prices at all:

Romney aside,

it IS the “elite” that are pushing for huge increases in energy prices, because their elitism demands that they be the only ones that can afford to use energy.

Once again the media accuses Newt of dishonest spin..but as always Newt is speaking about the cold hard facts.

Where are the media “gotcha” questions for Romney, such as, what is the current price of a gallon of milk? A dozen eggs? A loaf of bread?

GOOD APPROACH NEWT.

It’s effective for the primary. And worst case even if Romney steals the nomination - the dems can’t use it.

Because Obama actually is deliberately driving gas prices higher.

I don’t think Newt is pandering. I think he’s got a plan and he could pull it off.

Newt is a self made man. Read his bio and he is not even close to being in Mitt's financial class.

Newt is clearly addressing the financial hardship high gas prices have on Americans and would bet you he is closer to the reality than Mitt is...not snarky..it is a fact.

Newt drives his own car. Romney has cars but if you noticed he only referred to his wife driving ~ not himself. I've been imagining the personal body servant sitting at the wheel of Mitt's current limousine while he's in the back watching TV, checking the net, dining, or lounging.

Which doesn't change my mind one way or the other about his politics since he's just another rich guy who has a lifestyle to lead that he can afford.

My fondest hope is that no matter who wins that it's NOT OBAMA. He needs to have that limousine with body servants and body guards taken away from him and given to some one who deserves it, or at least knows how to use it!

Captain Ed, a guy I used to have a lot of respect for, has become a total Mittwit. Hot Air has been mostly anti-Newt from the get-go, mostly due to the site’s former owner Michelle Malkin and her extreme NDS (Newt Derangement Syndrome). The current contributor, who still call Malkin “The Boss,” are just following suit.

The headline is disingenuous.

That’s not what Newt said or even implying.

” “Well look, if you’re Mitt Romney and you’re rich enough, maybe you don’t get it,” Gingrich said on Fox News.

Romney had said Sunday, while campaigning in Georgia that Gingrich’s plan – which the former speaker said would drive down gas prices by opening up additional federal and offshore lands to oil drilling – was a “pander.” But Gingrich sharply contested that critique, saying he would happily debate Romney on rising fuel prices.

“If Romney wants to run as the candidate of high price gasoline, that’s fine with me. We’ll lump him up with Barack Obama, which is the same thing as ‘RomneyCare’ and ‘ObamaCare,’ maybe it’s Romney-high-priced-gasoline and Obama-high-priced-gasoline,” Gingrich continued.

The Hill’s video is cleaner, but not embeddable, so be sure to watch it at the link if you “

It was in reply to Romney’s ‘pandering’ statement.

Wrong, Mitt Romney is a self made man having given every bit of his inheritance to charity. Newt is a publically made man have made his money off the contacts he made as a politician for 20 years.

Since I support Santorum who also made money off of his time in DC I can at least be objective about this. Romney is a self made man, undoubtedly benefitting from his fathers name somewhat, but his money is money he made.

he is not even close to being in Mitt's financial class.

So, you approve of Gingrich promoting class envy.

That places the issue in the haves and have nots arguments. That is what the Dems/MSM and Obama are doing.

That is kind of snarky.

It sure is. Newt may be a self-made millionaire, but he is a millionaire none the less. So this is a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

Besides that, I thought the Republicans had rejected the politics of class warfare. Let's not give the lib's any talking points here.

I don’t think Newt is exactly hurting when it comes to filling up his gas tank either.

it IS the “elite” that are pushing for huge increases in energy prices, because their elitism demands that they be the only ones that can afford to use energy.

This is just an anecdote, but I think you will appreciate it.

A few years ago we filled up my multi- millionaires friend's boat, it cost $2,300. He actually told me high fuel costs mean less highway traffic and as far as boating is concerned, more available slips in different harbors as he travels along the coast- and less waiting in line to fuel up in marinas. From his point of view he is correct.
.You cant expect multi millionaires to think like "Joe Six-Pack. - tom
