State-level conservative blogs and think tanks are doing the work the rest of the mainstream media wont do on government big green boondoggles.
Last week, Doug mentioned the Abound Solar debacle here in my home state of Colorado.
Its thanks to the intrepid investigative work of Colorados Todd Shepherd and Amy Oliver at Complete Colorado and the Independence Institute and Michael Sandoval at Peoples Press Collective that this latest Department of Energy loan scandal has been exposed. Paul Chesser at the NLPC summarized:
Yet another solar company that received loan guarantees from the Department of Energy has dismissed factory workers, lopping off 70 percent of its U.S. employees. Loveland, Colo.-based Abound Solar announced Tuesday it would lay off 280 workers at its production plant near Longmont, leaving 120 still employed. The start-up (2009) company attributed the cutbacks to the need for upgrades at the plant to manufacture more efficient solar panels, with plans to restore production levels and rehire most employees within six to nine months.
Hopefully at the end of that time period we will bring people back, said Steve Abely, Abounds Chief Financial Officer, to the Boulder Daily Camera.
DOEs $400-million loan guarantee to Abound closed in December 2010, after President Obama delivered a weekly message a few months earlier hyping his jobs plan in a clean energy economy, in which he cited his plans for Abound[.]

The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
What these sob’s are getting away with is simply mind-boggling.
Another baloney energy company going belly-up. Where is the 400 million...Is Fed funding absorbed back into the Rat party? Kinda like money-laundering aint it?
It’s more like embezzlement than money laundering. Check that. It’s brazen theft.
BS. They're confusing capital investment with staffing. They are spewing a line of BS while screwing their investors - which BTW is us, the taxpayers.
The same excuse Solyndra gave, "We were out of date before we began production."
Bet those ChiComs building their plant at Laughlin, NV won't be out of date. They broke ground a day before Solyndra went bust.
Wonder how many bucks Obama doled out to his comrades at ENN Group Co. Ltd. of China?
"ENN has acquired an option to buy about 9,000 acres near Laughlin to build what is being called the Nevada Clean Energy Eco-Center." "he site would include a large-scale solar panel manufacturing facility, a solar farm and a renewable energy center that could include wind-generated power."

Robert Kennedy Jr. came to Colorado to lobby for funds for Abound Solar. All The Democrat polticians here did. Udahl, Bennett, Hickenlooper, Secretary Chu, Ritter, on and on. They held numerous press conferences at the Abound facility, all touting the new green economy. CSU raked in multiple millions of research funds using Abound as their springboard. Foreign banks poured millions into the company. Eco-profiteering in the extreeme...
Someone should follow the money. I wonder what’s in it for Kennedy?
Someone should take a look at their use of dangerous heavy metals like Cadmium, and potential pollution at their plant. Want to bet Obmam’a EPA turned a blind eye?
Follow the money. Find links between the people running these companies and high profile dems. Schools are likely places they could have met. So called commissions or think thanks. Maybe not high profile politicians but the people who have their ears.
Suppliers. How many suppliers of the raw materials are in this country? Probably very few. Its all out there unless its already been scrubbed or in the process of it but the guys starting these companies being nurtured by the government eat didn’t go into this business without connections. Neither were the monies approved without someone whispering into someones ear.
I smell Fast Eddie Perlslutter in here somewhere.
