Since the losing school wasn't from a foreign country ordinarily I'd say the USA chant was in poor taste.

One man's opinion.

Is it now acceptable to be a proud American only in the presence of foreign nationals?

How stupid is that?

If the tables has been turned, do you think there would have been the same punishment? Or any repercussions whatsoever?

HECK no!!

USA chant is typically made at international events, not domestic ones. If the USA chant was made in my area against one of the high schools with a predominately asian student body most reasonable people would imply the motives were something other than spontaneous patriotism.

However, as I said, the fans rooting for Alamo Heights get a special pass because of the obvious strong emotional attachment many of the latinos in schools in the deep SW have for Mexico. I'm sure this is what compelled the USA chanting, and I probably would've been with em.

Perhaps you missed our FRiend jagusfr's post back up at #53:

The “rest of the story”: the kids from Edison were chanting, “Alamo Whites” before and during the game. Did Alamo Heights get an apology? Hell, no!
The students and team from Alamo Heights HS were being taunted by the Chicano and Mexican kids from the other school, for being guero (white). The Mexican kids were placing a negative value on Europeanness and belittling their opponents.

Who proceeded to embarrass them on the scoreboard, and then rub it in with the "USA!" chant.

Overall not a good scene, but I'd have to say under the circumstances the Edison students started it and asked for the verbal wedgie.
