MIDDLETOWN A group of Wesleyan students is planning to protest the appearance of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia on Thursday.
The protest, organized by a group calling itself the Scalia Welcoming Committee, will precede Scalia's sold-out lecture titled "The Originalist Approach to the First Amendment" scheduled for 8 p.m. at the Memorial Chapel. His appearance has also attracted the attention of politicial activists affiliated with the Occupy movement, who plan to participate in the protest at Wesleyan.
On Monday a half-dozen letters to the editor from the group critical of Scalia were published in the school's campus newspaper, The Argus, asking students to join them in their protest.
Scalia is an invited speaker to campus.
The topic of his speech is to be 1A.
These organizers will rally to limit his right to speak.
OK. I understand.
Scalia is one man I would love to hear lecture.
Plus free advertising and inflated attendance reported at the protest!
This is really going to get the “teachers” upset. It will mess up their class material something fierce.
You don’t understand. Rights to free speech are reserved for liberals only. Scalia and his approach to the 1st amendment and constitution offend the sensibilities of these liberal college kids. So they would rather he be banned from the college, rather than listen to what he has to say.
This appears to be one college that does not offer any academic majors worthy of a real degree.
What a bunch of losers.
The left hates anyone’s free speech except their own. I think people are catching on.
Isn’t that SPECIAL...
Wesleyan is not known as “PCU” for nothing.
(It went to hell in 1969, when they started admitting women.)
Liberals know know The Constitution isn't going anywhere in the short run, so they have found ways to navigate around it.
So they would rather he be banned from the college, rather than listen to what he has to say.
But they don't know how to navigate away from the lecture hall.
When mommy & daddy are obscenely rich...you’re right. Who cares. You’re set for life.
Alan Alda and Bill Cosby’s kids went there. When I lived one town over, several years ago, I knew this kind of stuff.
It’s always been a haven for LIEberals.
Exactly what I thought. The way the HC article reads it’s written like a PSA.
It’s how we do things here. Promote a leftist agenda.
Tickets are sold out, I understand.
I fear, even if I was in the auditorium, Scalia will be interrupted constantly. It would be most disconcerting.
The paucity of programs that can actually be of use to the economy does say a lot.
Chemistry and "bio sciences". Sort of reminds me of the sitcom line: "My brother's a chemist. Sort of." (implied meth lab...)
More fun...sign up to *Wes speak* and post on their Argus form. Heh.

*Peers for Queers* ...that’s the student group I want to be in! ... the Emergence Infoshoppe Collective...I know we’d fit right in.

Tuition just went up... 3.8%...$43,404. Housing: $12,032. Heh.
Didn't Hillary graduate from this "college?"
Mark
For instance, noisy accordion-equipped marching bands and choreographed female teenaged militants dancing about with red banners.
Signs with slogans such as:
"Criticize The Old Constitutionalist-Originalists And Construct A New World With Revolutionary Thought As A Weapon!"
"We Demonstrate Irrefutable Evidence That The Rotten Heads Of The Wesleyan Counterrevolutionary Constitutionalist Line Plotted To Instigate A Suppression Of Expression Of The Revolutionary Committee! To Those Who Hold Tickets, Give Them Hell!"
"Down With The Anti-Occupy Revisionist Constitutionalists-Originalists! Resolutely Hail The Waging Of Bitter Struggle By The Cadre Against The Old Rotten Constitution! Return All Political Power To The Whims Of The People's Revolutionary Committee!"
Didn’t Hillary graduate from this “college?”
No, she graduated from Wellesley. Same mindset though and I am sure Scalia would not be welcome there either.
