Even Pat Robertson can see that - who can't at this point?
It took a bout of senility for Robertson to come out with this. Frankly, anyone who thinks legalizing drugs would be good for society isn't playing with a full deck. As if the rot in our culture isn't pervasive enough, we want to make it even worse by taking the drug culture mainstream.
Ask yourself this. If the country has a liberal-tarian brain infarction and legalizes drugs, what's to keep the big recreational drug companies that spring up from advertising their products everywhere? Answer: Nothing. There will be big *legal* money involved and the drug purveyors will get whatever they want.
The day that happens is the day I start looking to emigrate.

The suggestion is to legalize pot, not drugs. Well, unless you consider coffee and wine drugs. Or even opium.
However, whether you consider it rational for society or not, it appears inevitable. I'd like to hear all candidates position on the matter.

The drug culture already is mainstream. The drug prohibition is treated like the 55mph speed limit used to be - it's ignored by everyone except law enforcement.
The War on Drugs is costing us unconscionable amounts of money in law enforcement efforts and prison costs. It's resulted in any number of bad laws infringing on individual freedoms and led to the ongoing militarization of police departments in the US. And yet drugs are everywhere. Our last three presidents are either confirmed to have used or credibly suspected of having used illegal drugs in their younger days. Anyone who wants marijuana can get it - usually in less than an hour and without the age checks that accompany a purchase of liquor.
Anyone who believes that the War on Drugs is accomplishing anything beyond providing price supports for illegal drugs to enrich drug lords isn't playing with a full deck.

Anyone who thinks you can't get just about any drug you want in today's society isn't playing with a full deck.
The people who would abuse it if it was legal are the ones who are abusing it now, when it's illegal.
