Norway's defence secretary Roger Ingebrigtsen and an entourage of military officials visited the F-35 test force at Edwards AFB, California, during the last week of February.
The visit to the desert base comes at a time when Norway is trying to finalise how many aircraft it will ultimately buy.
"Right now we're in the process where the Norwegian government is about to make a recommendation to their parliament as far as how many F-35s we want to buy and where we should base these aircraft," says Major Eystein Kvarving, a spokesman for the Norwegian Defence Ministry on 29 February in press release issued by the US Air Force. "That recommendation is about to four to five weeks out and this is a major issue in Norwegian media and a major issue in the Norwegian public."
The northern European nation has already ordered four aircraft, but might buy as many as 48 of the stealthy fifth-generation jets.

Norway’s military is far, far leftist. And the defense minister claims to have received price guarantees from the US (they sound highly doubtful - the minister is likely fibbing a bit).
But Norway is a member of NATO. They have helped us during the Cold War and are helping us on the War on Terror.Norway provides intelligence to the United States.Norwegian soldiers have participated in operations in Afghanistan.Their air force is keeping Russian bombers from flying into NATO held airspace.
They do have a garrison in the Sør-Varanger municipality. Which is located at the Finnish-Russian border.
True enough. But. NATO is falling apart, it’s long since lost the function of a defense alliance. Now it’s an attack dog for the highest paying islamist. And the military is shrinking to just a shadow, as well as being unionized. And Norwegian military spokespersons run around in keffya complaining about Israel stealing Arab seas.
I agree that NATO is falling apart. As long as Norway keeps those Russian bombers out of the North Sea,the generals in Brussels are happy.
Less Russian military aircrafts in the vicinity of Norwegian airspace
Not so much tension anymore, and the old Bears are crap anyway. The old Orions are probably more useful than the fighters these days. Need sub control.
The Norwegians are constantly monitoring Russian sub activity due to its location. Those Russian “Bear” bombers dont belong near Norwegian and NATO airspace and are escorted out.
