UNIVERSITY OF ROCHESTER ECONOMIST: Rush Limbaugh Is Right, Sandra Fluke Is A 'Prostitute'
Business Insider ^ | Mar. 8, 2012, 5:29 PM | Grace Wyler

It has been one week since Rush Limbaugh first called Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke a "slut" and a "prostitute," but the controversy shows no sign of dying down.

Now University of Rochester economist and former Slate blogger Steven Landsburg has jumped to Limbaugh's defense.

In a blog post, Landsburg argued that while the talk radio host's language may have been off-color, Limbaugh's logic was analytically shrewd. Fluke, Landsburg writes, "deserves only to be ridiculed, mocked, and jeered" for saying that women should have access to contraception." He adds that Limbaugh's demand that Fluke and other Georgetown students post online sex tapes in exchange for contraception was actually a "spot-on analogy":

"If I can reasonably be required to pay for someone else’s sex life (absent any argument about externalities or other market failures), then I can reasonably demand to share in the benefits. His dense and humorless critics notwithstanding, I am 99% sure that Rush doesn’t actually advocate mandatory on-line sex videos. What he advocates is logical consistency and an appreciation for ethical symmetry. So do I. Color me jealous for not having thought of this analogy myself."

Unsurprisingly, Landsburg's arguments sparked a mini-firestorm at the University of Rochester, prompting the school's president to issue a public dissent. Landsburg has resoundingly dismissed his critics as "contraceptive sponges," and devoted another blog posts to rebutting their arguments in favor of contraception access.

"deserves only to be ridiculed, mocked, and jeered" for saying that women should have access to contraception."

There the Left goes again, manipulating the language. Who has ever denied women "access" to contraceptives? As has been demonstrated, the spoiled co-eds of Georgetown can go to their nearby Target store and "access" contraceptives for $9 a month, without a prescription.

I guess they are equating the term "access" with getting something free of charge. By that logic, I can claim that I am being denied access to a Lexus because I can't get one for free.

Contraceptive sponges! LOL!

Viciously good wit!

Contraception in the courts of the Bourbons--a vinegar-soaked sponge used like an IUD.

In other words, a do***e bag.

This guy is more daring, in his way, than even our Rush.

It is a shame that the state of academia is such that his argument is lost in the political correctness of it all. At the core of the argument is that we have a right to the product of our labors. That concept is so far removed from study these days that people don’t even recognize it when it hits them in the face.

I hope he has tenure also!

“Common Sense” today is lost, or neglected, or even despised.

I just heard in an old movie: “Today is Tommorrow”

"Former Slate contributor . . ."

This guy is no right-wing nutjob, he's obviously a liberal with intellectual integrity (I didn't think their were any).

This guy is a hero for standing up for the truth, consistency, and rationality.

women should have access to contraception

We're seeing this lie over and over. If the government doesn't force someone else to pay for it, the left says people don't have "access" to it. Anybody repeating this line should also be ridiculed.

LOL - contraceptive sponges.... We've got ourselves a new hero - seems that's happening more and more... life is good!

Hope Rush Limbaugh sees this...

Guess the University President doesn’t want to hear talk about “if you pay, you play” stuff ~ might well reveal some secrets at that campus!

Standing up for the Catholic church is only a byproduct here. They are standing up for our freedom from the Government taking over every phase of our lives.

“What he advocates is logical consistency and an appreciation for ethical symmetry.”

Yeah, let me know how that works out. You’ll find that at the end of the rainbow along with “hope and change”. It’s right next to the fountain of youth.

This guy has a way with phrases.

I heard Rush talk about it.. I honestly had the same impression of what Rush was saying.. I simply lacked the eloquence to describe my feeling. I said that it was tit for tat.

Not only the Catholic ideals but the actual Constitution of The United States too!!! The libs are so far off base on this that is is unbelievable even for their vacuous insight into the founding documents..

Me too. They’ll be burning him in no time. Hopefully in effigy, but who knows? We all know how liberal and tolerant and open to dialogue the left is...especially it’s academics and they’re minions, errr students.
