Gingrich: I'm staying in the race past Alabama, Mississippi contests
The Hill ^ | 3/9/12 | Daniel Strauss

Newt Gingrich says he isn't dropping out if he loses two upcoming primaries in Alabama and Mississippi.

"We’ll clearly do well enough to move on and I think there’s a fair chance we’ll win," Gingrich said in an interview with The Associated Press on Friday.

Gingrich said he planned to make it all the way to the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida.

"But I just want to set this to rest once and for all, we’re going to Tampa," Gingrich added in the interview.

Gingrich's spokesman, R.C. Hammond, had previously said the former House Speaker had to win the upcoming contests in Alabama and Mississippi, taking place on Tuesday, to continue running for president.

Gingrich held the lead in the latest poll of Mississippi. He had 35 percent support to Mitt Romney's 31 percent in an American Research Group poll released Friday.

Gingrich, Romney and Rick Santorum are essentially tied in Alabama. A new Rassmussen poll found the three candidates within 2 points of each other.

So even if he loses both contests he will stay in to be a spoiler for Romney?? He has won a total of TWO states..I like Newt as much as anybody but if he isn’t winning but just finishing third he isn’t helping anyone but mitt. GOD help us all if Romney wins because thats four more years of BO!

You don’t have to fret since Newt is going to take those two states. :-)

Few have the capacity to understand how to win delegates the hard way with these new rules. There's so few true winner-take-all...districts everywhere...conventions big and small.

Newt understands and I believe him when he says he's fighting all the way to Tampa.

If nothing else he will give us Grand Drama.

Newt keeps gobbling up delegates while Rick wins hollow victories.

Go Newt!

Thanks for sharing. Every-time, I see an article now from The Hill, since their reporters go on Fox and lambaste Newt and build up their trust of Romney, I don't trust the motives. They have been a apart of the establishment keeping this diatribe it's Romney and Rick. I want Newt to stay in and go to the convention; to fight to knock liberal Romney out. We don't have to accept Romney esp. if he doesn't get the full delegate count. He will be a weak candidate to Obama. Rage against the machine if you want change ( Go, rogue people)

So far, Newt has more delegates than Santorum. If anybody should drop out and stop splitting the vote, it’s Saint Ricky.

Santo knows he has delegate problems, but in Mobile AL today he tried to say that all the candidates have the same issue. He really sounded life a buffoon.

Wouldn't that be the perfect answer, a miracle for our country so, we don't have the ruling class guy. I expect all kinds of dirty tactics at convention. Sure am glad that Palin plans on being there.
