For the first time in the history of the mission two soldiers of the Polish Military Contitgent in Afghanistan got married. Joanna and Piotr have taken their wedding oath in the Polish Embassy in Kabul.
Joanna graduated from the Polish Air Force Academy and for several years has been serving in Polish Armed Forces as a helicopter pilot. Piotr has also been serving in Polish Special Forces for several years. This is his fifth deployment to Afghanistan, altogether hes spent 2,5 years out there. Hes a special force operator, one of the most experienced Joint Terminal Attack Controller within the Polish Army.
They met toghether for the first time in Afghanistan in 2010. After half a year they met again. Lieutenant Joanna was just to finish her first 6 months deployment, Piotr was just starting his new term. Later they dated in Poland before they went together for the new deployment. They got engaged spontaneously. The commando proposed to Joanna on the Christmas day 2010. They planned to get married in Poland, but their colleagues convinced them, that as the mission gave them the possibility to get together - then maybe its worth considering to get married in Afghanistan.
Their wedding was not a typical one. They travelled to the Polish Embassy fully geared up with weapons, wearing bulletproof vests and helmets.
General Piotr Blazeusz the commander of the Polish Military Contingent in Afghanistan, when congratulating the bride and groom said Even though we are in the war zone, where the main task is to fight the rebels - in such circumstances two people in love plan future for themselves and overcome all the obstacles to be togehter.
The newly wed got special greetings from the President of Poland, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Defence.
The church wedding is going to take place in Poland, in June.
A very good idea. I’d really like to participate in something like that.
That needed repeating.

The inferences as to what type of a wedding it was would have caused way to much murmuring amidst those attending.
“The inferences as to what type of a wedding it was would have caused way to much murmuring amidst those attending.”
True story;
A well off friend of the family had three daughters. He was
an avid trap and skeet shooter and gave each son in law a
Browning Citori over and under for a wedding present. The
last one didn’t know shotguns from Shineola and thought it
was a bad joke. Got the relationship off to a really bad
start!
“Love your tagline.”
Thanks, I was just thinking the other day that maybe it was
time for a change. Guess I’ll hold on to it a while longer.
May God bless them as they begin their married life.
