Dream Act: Jailed illegal immigrant becomes N.C. rallying point
Los Angeles Times ^ | March 13, 2012 | David Zucchino

Reporting from Durham, N.C.— Two weeks ago, Uriel Alberto interrupted a state legislative hearing in North Carolina and declared himself an undocumented immigrant.

"I am undocumented and I am unafraid," Alberto, 24, told a North Carolina House of Representatives immigration committee in Raleigh. "I refuse to be bullied and intimidated by this committee and choose to empower my community."

Now, thanks to an online petition campaign, Alberto is a rallying point for supporters of the Dream Act, which would give permanent resident status to undocumented students brought illegally to the U.S. by their parents. Supporters have launched a Facebook page, a Twitter hashtag (#FreeUriel) and online petitions; they've also staged rallies outside the jail, the News and Observer of Raleigh reported Monday.

"He took a brave stand for immigration rights, and now he may get deported for it," said a posting on the Facebook page. Alberto's online supporters are urging others to call or write federal immigration authorities to lobby against deportation.

"I am undocumented and I am unafraid," "This is the land of second opportunities," Alberto told WGHP. "I'm grateful for being in this country. I love this country. This is my country. I consider myself a Southern boy."

What happen to, "I am undocumented and I am unafraid,"

What happened to, "I am undocumented and I am unafraid . . . ?"

It takes about as much courage to make this statement in ObaMao's America as it takes to denounce George Bush in Hollywood.

As long as you don't deviate from the Liberal agenda of demanding more free stuff, you have less chance of being deported than you have of being killed by a drunk, illegal alien driver.

“Alberto has past convictions for speeding, driving while impaired and driving with a revoked license.”

But interrupted a government proceeding to demand we allow him to become a law-abiding citizen?

Go to hell, Alberto. I hope you’re deported.

If the NC State Police had any sand, they would come get this guy RFN and escort him across the state line.

Get these freeloading Mexican illegals out of my state. And freeloaders from other countries, too.

Send him to any other country besides Canada and Great Britain and see if he has the same battle cry. I doubt it. No facebook support either. America... the awesome country that will catapult an illegal immigrant to celebrity status instantly!

undocumented students are not “immigrants.”

This is a nation of immigrants who entered legally. An immigrant today will have a green card to show, meaning he/she is a permanent resident. Don't let these illegals call themselves “immigrants.” They are not.

Once again, ICE has failed America. Bertie should have been put on the first bus back across the border.

a brave stand for immigration rights

What "right" is that?

Is there a right to occupy the American land mass? If so, where precisely is that given in our Constitution?

Does it mean that the Chinese government has the right to send 50, 100, 200 million people here with impunity?

If so, can they bring their guns? We do have a Second Amendment.

And if so, then by what right would we prevent the People's Liberation Army from coming ashore? Couldn't they just declare themselves "undocumented and unafraid"?

You see it would be racist to resist. After all, haven't we Evil Americans discriminated against the entire world by having borders that we defend? Or rather defend-ed. It's sorta past tense....

The Mexican guy is asserting a right of invasion that nowhere exists in anyone's founding documents. On the contrary, defense against Invasion is explicitly called out in the Constitution as a duty of the Federal government.

A duty which it has utterly and malfeasantly abdicated for the last 40 years.
