U.S.English Chairman Mauro E. Mujica this week contacted former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, calling for the two Republican Presidential candidates to demand an English language requirement should Puerto Ricans elect statehood this coming November.

Expected to make appearances in Puerto Rico this week, Romney and Santorum have not yet spoken out in support of requiring English as an official language in order for Puerto Rico to be granted statehood status. Romney has previously expressed support for statehood, should Puerto Ricans favor that in an upcoming plebiscite.

Why bother with PR, when we are not allowed to make English the official language in the uS?

No statehood for mostly liberal PR.

not unless there is a conservative colony wishing to become a state at the same time...

think AK and HA.

It is an excuse for Santos to start running as Romney’s VP ...my guess is now that Santos ‘college days’ are starting to surface (Romney’s doing) Santos is going to be backing down.. BTW - where the hell are Obama’s college days?

Start running for the Romney VP slot, some have thought that has been the plan all along.

‘Vaquero’

yup....cowboy.

mispronounced for over a century by US cowboys as ‘buckaroo’.....

and my weapon of choice...the Ruger old style ‘Vaquero’ single action six gun...for cowboy action shooting...

Anyone who trashes Adelson is utterly clueless on GOP politics in this country.

Puerto Ricans have continually voted down statehood. Right now they get the best of both worlds (no Federal taxes, but Federal subsidies, food stamps, welfare, US Citizenship, etc.)
Why would they ever want to end the free ride?

English or no, getting them to start paying Federal taxes would actually represent progress.

It’s why I never understood the Puerto Rican terrorists who wanted independence. I know of no American who would oppose giving them their independence if they wanted it.

NO, NO, NO!

No Puerto Rico! Not now, Not EVER!

The Dems want it, because it would be that many more secure Dem Electoral Votes, Hmmm.....That seems familiar, almost like the Missouri Compromise, you get more and more Democrat States until you out number the Republican ones, and Bingo! No need to worry about elections. Just another fateful step towards another Civil War, I know Romney is a Liberal, but Santorum should know better, NO Puerto Rico!

Nobody is trashing Adelson. Adelson believes Romney will be the nominee but he has his own reasons for keeping Gingrich in the race.

I'm thinking 2 Senators from PR would not represent progress.

Looks like your Santorum-bashing is as deranged as it ever has been:

Mitt Romney effectively rules out Rick Santorum as running mate

Guys like you are an embarassment to the Newt camp (and I prefer Newt over Santorum, but I ain't gonna bash the other conservative guy in the warped belief that doing so helps my guy).
