And teachers still can’t figure out why they get almost no respect these days.

They get the same kind of respect as city roofers, laborers, or electricians, etc.
The joke is, some teachers consider themselves "professional people", like accountants and lawyers, lol.

I'm not sure I get your inference. I have known semi
literate laborers with a very high level of integrity and
honesty that deserve much more respect than most lawyers I
know.

don't compare hard working skilled American workers to teachers....

one group isn't afraid to work a full week,a full year, and the other protests if they have to work an extra hour....

why is there such contempt for the salt of the earth workers....they're far better than most "professionals"....their values....their work ethic...

I dare most people to even try roofing for a hot afternoon.....or to work with high voltage electricity and just hope they know their wires....

teachers aren't respected because like nurses, they are considered a quasi "vocation" not just any old job, yet they treat it like its their own little gold mine....
