Santorum is the projected winner in Alabama, gradually increasing a 5% lead, 12,000 vote margin over runner-up Newt Gingrich.

Mississippi remains too close to call and is very much a three way race with Santorum still clinging to a narrow lead.

FWIW, Newt's PAC was running ads on the drive home on our Clear Channel station. Our primary is not for another six weeks.

All delegates are proportional in both these states, but it still can't look good losing in your own backyard.

You didn’t hear? This election proves Santorum should drop out. He’s unfairly taking votes away from Gingrich.

Looks like Santorum will win both AL & MS. For all that money Romney spent, not much of a return.

Could it be that Newt continues to run in order to deny Mitt the delegates needed to win the nomination?

All Newt has to offer is keeping Little Ricky from winning anymore delegates than possible, and send this to brokered convention.

Someone on Fox was talking about how ‘close’ mitt came in the south.

If I’m Newt, now I’m thinking of getting out and supporting mitt. Even though they both suck, mitt is flat out a better candidate the santorum. Ether that or force a brokered convention, maybe something good could come of that. But I think the rnc has snatched defeat from the jaws of victory again,

Romney 3rd in both races even after spending a LOT of money. In a three way floor fight would you expect Romney supporters to move toward Santorum or Newt? Simple answer...Newt!

I was for Newt dropping out but lately I’ve been thinking like you. He may be staying in to deny Romney more delegates. My wish is for a brokered convention so this strategy sounds good to me.

I would imagine it will all end up with Romney picking Santorum as VP and then he’ll have Newt campaigning for him and probably give him some post in the admin if he wins.

Whatever one says about Santorum, he’ll be compared to that dufus Joe Biden, and Santorum can probably help get out the vote with evangelicals and do some under the radar base firming that the media won’t necessarily pick up on.

I suspect also that Romney will get Newt out there to campaign and attack Obama too....sort of as a team.

I’m not saying all this is good or bad, just a prediction. I also think Huckabee and Palin are probably kicking themselves for not getting in this.

Fox just called it for MS - Santorum. I didn’t expect this. Delegate wise it’s a 3 way split. Still a win for Romney unfortunately.
