Study Warns of Economic Damage in a Keystone Spill (Slimes running cover for Obama with fake study)

A report released on Tuesday by Cornell University’s Global Labor Institute concludes that the economic damage caused by potential spills from the Keystone XL pipeline could far outweigh the benefits of jobs created by the project.

The institute, which advocates the creation of union jobs in renewable energy and analyzes sustainability issues, said that more than a million people work in agricultural or tourism jobs in the six states along Keystone XL’s route and that the economic costs could be considerable if a major spill occurred.

The risks of an economically damaging accident are higher than those for conventional crude, the report said, because pipelines carrying oil sands crude are more prone to spills, an argument long made by opponents of the Keystone XL project.

The report cited a spill from an Enbridge Energy pipeline in July 2010 that dumped about 843,000 gallons of oil sands crude near Marshall, Mich. and has been especially difficult and expensive to clean.

“Given where the pipeline is scheduled to go, it’s not inconceivable that a spill like the Enbridge pipeline spill could occur,” said Sean Sweeney, the institute’s director and a co-author of the study. “And if it contaminated a major waterway in a remote area, it could take a long time to deal with.”

the economic damage caused by potential spills

Potentially they could dig up Jimmy Hoffa while building the pipeline.
Potentially Obama could start acting like an American

The risk seems small in all cases......

Risk is the concern?

Then, construction on the Freedom Tower must cease now. The risk of it being struck in a 9/11-style attack is too great. While we`re at it, the Empire State Building and Statue of Liberty should be dismantled as well.. again, too risky.

I just do not understand the Brouhaha over pipelines.
I lived the first 60 years of my life near transcontinental
pipelines without ever hearing of a break or leak.

In the 80s I bought two microwave communications sites from Mid-Valley pipeline that ran from Texas? up to New England, I guess.
They had replaced the radio links with satellite communications.
We never thought of the line at all. It could have been plain air or water for all we knew.

"... economic damage caused by potential spills from the Keystone XL pipeline could far outweigh the benefits of jobs..."

you could pick your nose and cause brain damage

you could scratch your butt and wind up ingesting feces

you could step off a curb while picking your nose and scratching your butt and get hit by a truck

the only could they cannot consider is that by putting Obama in the white house, we could be are being destroyed

The name of this "organization" says it all.

The economic damage is speculation; the jobs are real.

Life is risk. I suspect some of the millions of unemployed would be willing to take their chances ...

The high-speed rails that they want to build have much more environmental impact, with noise, risk of accidents and I'm sure a number of dead animals every day.

I had ONLY to read who made the “study” and knew with a 100% certainty what the “study” would claim.
On the statistical evidence of harm to human beings, I hereby demand that the AUTOMOBILE be banned from the USA, an act that will save thousands upon thousands of lives annualy.
Next, the elimination of the danger of death when trapped in a crashing airplane, each of which carries more and more passengers per flight.
Following with a realization that thousands of additional deaths and millions of dollars of fire damage could be prevented annually by elimination of the use of electricity.
What is regretable is there are “STUDIES” that will agree with the nonsense I just typed.

Yes, you do. It's all made up. It's part of the push to deny us oil. Remember when the Alaskan pipeline was going to decimate the caribou population? Didn't happen -- the population grew. That doesn't matter to the anti-growth crowd.

That’s why we hire workers to make sure no spill occurs, and the workers know that a spill is lost pocket money, and so they make sure it’s all kept clean.

But in communist America, no one is to have vested interest into anything, be it company stocks, revenues, country, children, flag (and even the government itself likes to f itself) etc... nah, it’s “forgive and forget” I do not have to give a crap but keep shopping.

Good point, this is all Pravda dithering, going one way of the wind one day, and the other the next, making all kinds of excuses.

General Suvorov would make fun of the Soviet media when the invasion of Israel failed because they were 100% sure their gazillion tanks would over-run the tiny non-place.

We need to stop subsidizing these experts who become government paid journalists for the NYT.

I remember in the 1970s environmentalists assured us that the Trans Alaska Pipeline would turn much of Alaska into an oil soaked moonscape, decimate the caribou and leak more oil than it transported. 35 years after the completion of the pipeline Alaska remains pretty much pristine and none of these dire predictions have occurred. For decades oil pipelines have crisscrossed the country and operated without serious problems. Note the majority of these existing pipelines were built without all the environmental studies and special conditions that will be applied the the Keystone project.

Remember “Nuclear Winter”?

Learned something interesting this morning, looking up the link for the KGB term disinformation.

Did you know the “Nuclear Winter” story, was in fact a KGB creation?

Literally. The KGB *created* the “Nuclear Winter” story.

Source:

“Disinformation by the KGB

According to senior SVR officer Sergei Tretyakov, the KGB was responsible for creating the entire nuclear winter story to stop the Pershing missiles.[1] Tretyakov says that from 1979 the KGB wanted to prevent the United States from deploying the missiles in Western Europe and that, directed by Yuri Andropov, they distributed disinformation, based on a faked “doomsday report” by the Soviet Academy of Sciences about the effect of nuclear war on climate, to peace groups, the environmental movement and the journal AMBIO.[1][2] “

The imagined damage by the Keystone Pipeline is trivial compared to that actually wrought by Cornell University’s Global Labor Institute. The three or four members should be shackled and paraded around the country in tatters before being exiled to Kwajalein .

They are not fit to live in America

Bingo.

Indeed, we could have smashed the heck out of them back then, but the KGB tried to make people believe they would annihilate themselves if we annihilated them.

Kerry also voted against a measure for US civil defense in case of nuke attack on US soil.

We got many traitors going around.
