Others likened her rather sombre ensemble to Chairman Mao or a ninja. But things were all bright on the night when stylish Sam Cam whipped off her black Burberry coat at a mini-Olympics event in Washington for her first fashion head-to-head with America’s First Lady of fashion Michelle Obama.

The Guardian is the equivalent of the Nation being available on a daily basis as a newspaper. More a mouthpiece of the Labour Party. The others are right-of-center but there are class differences going back to their origins:
1: London Times: The oldest and a Tory standard bearer, think of old money.
2: London Telegraph: Middle Class
3: Daily Mail: A tabloid appealing to the lower “white collar” middle class. Old monied Tories, like Lord Salisbury, scoffed at the paper being the paper of the clerks.
I think Mrs. Cameron looks fine. She is slim enough to get by with the look she’s wearing.
As for the faux pas of the lack of hat, she might be something of a rebel telling the royals they cannot dictate her fashion choices.
Okay, looked at picture again and maybe Mrs. Cameron is a little too casual and hippy looking even for the sports event.
However, she doesn’t look bad at all. I’d have to see some other pictures of her at other events to give her a final grade.

Of course - it is hard to tell how much advantage she is getting - by being photographed next to a Wookie.
Shoot - I’d look good in a dress next to Moochelle.
Neither looks good in those get-ups.
Michelle’s pants are awful. I didn’t know wide-legged trousers were now back in style. They are inappropriate for a sporting event and add bulk to her figure.
Samantha’s shoes are just WRONG. They draw unwanted attention to the feet and the straight pants at the ankle are too tight. She looks like she’s ready for rollerskating. It’s not a dignified look for a state visit. Plus her hair is too dark and long—did she comb it?—for a 40-year-old woman.
I miss Princess Diana.
Yikes — I haven’t seen “bell-bottom” pants that wide since I was in high school (and I graduated in 1972). And, again, a sweater that doesn’t really fit. I’ll take understated Mrs. Cameron any day.
I’m just taking a guess here, but, I think you are seeing one side of the sandal, and then the other. One side is open, and the other has more material on it. Again, just a guess.

Agreed. Michelle is the ultimate in looking awful, but Sam Cam strikes me as the second worst of the two.
Leaving her looks aside, which she can’t help, that is no outfit for a PM’s wife to wear to a meeting with their (formerly) most important ally (and hopefully to be so again, when the world turns).

I think Samantha looks pretty good for someone who just had a baby not too long ago.
It irritates me when the wife of the Prime Minister is referred to as ‘the First Lady’. We don’t have a first lady, and if we did, it would be Her Majesty the Queen, who is our head of state, not the spouse of the head of government...
