First, let me state that I have been retired 25+ years, things are waaay different now, but I was postmaster in 1980 and computerized receipts were in the future then. The hand date stamper then was just as its name-a circular dating device hooked to a dowel-like handle. Nothing mechanical. You pick up the dater and hit the spot on the receipt you are dating. The daters were protected devices locked up at night and if one was misplaced, we searched til it was found and if one needed to be replaced the old one was returned to our Sectional Center for accountability. Not saying that it had exceptional security, just that we wouldn't take the theft of one lightly.

Can't believe the Sheriff or some of his investigators haven't noticed the very strange placement of the 80 on that form. I think he has and isn't revealing that yet.

I also believe that Postal Inspectors would find that date very INTERESTING. Have worked with Postal Inspectors during Geo. H.W. Bush's term when he would receive hate mail (fairly often) or suspicious looking packets and various other unrelated incidences -mailbox tampering, theft by postal workers (all too frequent) and I have found the Inspectors to be very efficient and professional. Unfortunately any Inspectors I was acquainted with have long since retired.

To a postal worker, that is such an obvious, glaring forgery I truly believe somebody is looking into it but have to wonder how the forger thought it would pass close inspection.

It was noted. There is a video of it as well.

@Selective Service

Would you please post some comments after you view the video?

By my and others guesses the forger had two days to make it ...Obie was on the news saying he had registerd for the draft in 1979 (actually 80) so immediately people began searching for records...

On Sept. 7, 2008, Obama appeared on ABC’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos,” and stated, “I had to sign up for Selective Service (SS) when I graduated from high school … And I actually always thought of the military as an ennobling and, you know, honorable option. But keep in mind that I graduated in 1979. The Vietnam War had come to an end. We weren’t engaged in active military conflict at that point. And so, it’s not an option that I ever decided to pursue.”

FOIA requests were made in October and the SS computer showed an access date of September 9, 2008..thus the two days to come up with something...

Good points. A quick question since you were a Post Master. Is there anything on the stamp which indicates the post office where the stamp was assigned. It is blurry online but the notations around the circle must mean something. I seriously doubt they could be from a Ha. post office near where obama lived. Just asking.
