The Navy Is Sending Everything It Needs For A War With Iran To The Strait Of Hormuz
Business Insider ^ | March 16, 2012 | Robert Johnson

The global signs of a coming military conflict with Iran continue to build, and today the U.S. Navy made clear its intentions by announcing it's sending four additional mine countermeasure ships to the Strait of Hormuz.

Stars and Stripes reports the Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jonathan Greenert told the Senate Armed Services Committee that he's sending the mine ships in addition to four airborne mine countermeasure helicopters.

Iran has already warned that one of its first steps in closing the Strait of Hormuz, and choking off 40 percent of the world's oil supply, will be to mine the strait and deploy its fleet of small electronic submarines.

Greenert was recently aboard the USS John C. Stennis when it was tailed through the strait by the Iranians and came away from that ride thinking "[W]e could do better setting the theater. I wanted to be sure ... that we are ready..."

War is probably the only thing that is going to cure the ails of the ME, but NOT with this Anus Orifice as Commander In Chief. He’s a Democrat, and Democrats think war is a political tool as they perceive most everything.

Victory doesn’t apply to their wars. Their wars are for political gain no matter the losses.

The transit lanes are arbitrary lines of convenience on a map. The actual available deep water is considerably wider.

So you're saying that a fully-loaded supertanker can pick his own transit lane if the need be? I'm thinking that there are limits to how far away from the center it can safely transit. Within reason, of course.

"I would not be surprised if the IAF goes up to hit Iran it meets the USN which gives it the choice of fighting the US or turning back, or the USN just shoots down the IAF then takes out Israeli airfields. Or maybe we will do that pre-emptively."
Remember the USS Liberty, a/k/a, payback is a bitch?

Could we perhaps hear that in the original German?

kthx.

Sure there are limits-whatever depth of water that will support a ship's draft. And that available depth is much wider than the Traffic Separation Schemes themselves. The TSS is there more to prevent collisions than groundings.

Here is the chart of the straits. Larger scale here.

XLNT post, love charts...easy to see how quickly one would have to respond from an ASCM attack.

That really depends on whether the kenyan is Shi’ite or Sunni. If Sunni, as I suspect, he would have no problem with Iran being glassed over.

or the USN just shoots down the IAF then takes out Israeli airfields.

That simple, huh? Taking on the IAF would be no walk in the park.

The first part, shooting them down, might be very parklike if they were told beforehand that the US forces would be in support or would stand aside. Think the kenyan would not be so dishonorable?

not to worry [well maybe we should worry] due to the allegiance bambam showed by kissing the ring of the king of saud...

they fear the nutjob mullahs, so the bamster, most likely of sunni persuasion, will have no qualms about using the might of his arsenal to destroy the shia blasphemers when the opportunity to wag the camel presents itself...

many [including myself] have wanted iran crushed totally, as in nuked or such, and we might get that and more now that weve allowed em to possibly arm up enuff to hit Israel...

If folks really want to understand where hot spots may emerge, look at the deployment of unrep, supply and ordnance shipping. That's what other military organizations track.

Insightful - thanks.
