State police captains and lieutenants signed their first contract as a union after a long running battle with the state, according to a union spokesperson.
The contract was adopted on Friday and will move to the general assembly for approval, Benjamin Phillips said, spokesperson for CSEA/SEIU Local.
About 40 captains and lieutenants voted in 2006 to form the union, but were opposed by state officials, who said the troopers were management employees and therefore ineligible for union representation.
The union won a five-year battle to form a bargaining unit in February, following a new ruling by the state Board of Labor Relations and a decision by the Malloy administration to let the ruling stand.

40 out of how many?
I have been out of CT for 16 yrs. Come to NH we still have Liberties and the gun industry is booming. No state income tax, a tax on dividends, sales tax on meals and lodging. Property taxes, u need to shop for a house.
always loved New Hampshire...I’d like a house up by Colbrook....
In 1996 we moved here and found out the locals yell about all the taxes. The Liberals yell sales tax, income tax, at the same time eliminating your Liberties. To rebut the liberals tax’s, I refer to CT and the Gov Wichker [sp] no state income tax to his signing it into law. At the same time he reduced the sales tax to 6% but broaden the base, newspapers etc.
In addition I added all the CT taxes and fees, down to trash pickup, services, like bottle deposits etc and divided the total into the total SQFT of my CT house. Today using the same process in NH it costs me less than CT did in 1996.
