I don’t disagree with your logic from a political standpoint, but look at the bigger statement this makes about our nation.

We are hopelessly entrapped in multiculturalism and diversity where we define others by color/language instead of a common culture and shared values. Our melting pot has turned into a bucket of stones.

Has not the left won when conservatives pontificate on the wisdom of pandering to people based on their ethnicity? Again, I don’t disagree, it is not winning politics, but what does it say about the bigger picture?

He is thinking that the vast majority of Americans agree with him and beyond a fairly insignificant primary in Puerto Rico.

Romney is the one that stepped in it by promising statehood to PR.

Is there anything Rick bashers won't get their panties in a wad about?

Santorum doesn’t think. Sadly, the poor guy doesn’t have the capacity to do so.

Yet, somehow, he served in Congress about 20 years, earned a law degree and ended up a contender for the GOP nomination despite having very little money or organization to start out with.

He says truth and common sense and deep American values. Sadly these things are not allowed in campaigns because we must appeal to hedonists with no values or morals. We must pander and dance jigs before Protected Groups like twinkle toes Romney.

They're good people, good candidates. I don't think Ronald Reagan could win elections in this environment.

You may very well be right. But from the viewpoint of what I've seen and heard myself directly from these candidates, and not from a media filter, they seem a cut or two below the Reagans of the world.

English is already the official language of PR and is already taught in the schools along with Spanish. Again Saint Rick opened his mouth and inserted his foot. The guy is a walking gaffe machine who never think before he speaks. He is so bush league it is unbelievable that there are any republicans voting for him. The Democrats are probably sending his campaign money hoping for the unthinkable a chance to run against him in November and securing an LBJ/Goldwater victory.

What the hell was he thinking?

I don't see much evidence that he ever has.

Well, I don't plan on learning Spanish. Just sayin.

I love Puerto Rico very much. It's a beautiful island. But if they want to become a State of the Union then speak English. Otherwise remain a Territory or become independent.

Too bad Santorum didn't say it in Italian.

I am sick and tired of Hispanics pulling their ethnic crap. A few years ago, while attending the company's leadership class my seating partner was Hispanic and insisted on pronouncing her name in Spanish proper. She pulled that on the wrong person. She asked me my name and speaking perfect Dutch I out “ethnic’d” her. She got my point.

Balogna. Less than 5% of Puerto Ricans speak English as their primary language and over 80% speak English “less than very well” which in English means poorly. Another freeper for the Balkanization of America.

Why doesn’t everyone just wait until tomorrow and see how it all turns out? It seems to me that Santorum has said lots and lots of, shall we say, unfortunate things, but it doesn’t seem to matter to his supporters. So who knows? This might end up being just one more goof-up that won’t make a difference.

Did it ever occur to anyone that the statement was made to evoke votes on the mainland, not in PR? I don’t think Santorum gives a hoot about PR; what he said was meant to get votes in the mid-west, not in PR...Judging by the comments here, you all fell for it hook, line, and sinker...

So you support allowing new states into the union that don’t have English as their primary language? La Raza and Aztlan love you.

Who cares. The Hispanic vote always goes to the Democrats. They are just another bloc of government dependents voting for more government. We DON’T NEED them.

Who cares about Puerto Rico? I do have Puerto Rican friends and don’t mean an insult to them but Puerto Rico isn’t a state and ‘Hispanics’ are not necessarily block voters in the way that blacks are. Cuban’s vote differently than Mexican Americans for example. Sure they have core issues that are unique but the most successful US Hispanics that tend to identify with the GOP are not offended by an English speaking requirement nor do they identify themselves as tied to the plight of illegal aliens. If the GOP would be a little more straightforward in making this distinction then the left would have a more difficult time of trying to turn the Hispanic vote into another voting block for the DNC.

As for Rick Santorum being honest about an English speaking requirement for statehood all polls show a super majority of Americans (those who can actually vote for President) support English as the official language of the United states. Even 78% of Hispanics support English as the official language of the United States so I don’t see the controversy here.

Are we to behave as if we are a minority on this issue too just so not to be criticized by the left or the political class who are so far out of the mainstream that that are aligned against 80% of the rest of us? I swear its hard to be a conservative sometimes when so many of those among us have some weird inferiority complex even on issues that we have an obscene advantage on like this issue.

People need to get it through their thick heads the liberal msm and political class are the extremists. Sure they have a megaphone but few are believing them. Even in this latest dust-up about Sandra Fluke there hasn’t been a real shift against the GOP. We need to be confident and not ashamed of what we believed even in the face of astounded liberals and a hostile political class. They only win when we shut up and don’t make the case for what we believe which are the same values and principles that the likes of Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, and George Washington held dear. They are the interlopers not us and we should stop responding as if we are Pavlovian dogs who are scared shitless if liberals or the generally universally hated political class are saying mean things about us. We should be aligning clearly against THEM. That is how we win. We did in 2010 and we didn’t do it by toning it down or blurring the lines.

Why stand on the backs of giants and behave like mice.
