Granted, having a presidential kid along changes the chemistry of the trip. For a place like Sidwell, it’s a mixed bag. There is the prestige factor to consider — not that Sidwell needs reinforcement there — but there are tangible burdens as well. Educating presidential kids is a dirty job, but someone’s gotta do it.
I don’t know anything about Sidwell “spin.” All I know is what I was told by the parents as they were explaining why their daughter had to miss a pre-season tournamant. They are expecting the trip to be a mix of work and sightseeing. Which seems appropriate to me, as the father of an eighth grader myself.

Yes, our homeless are so much better off than their poor.
All she needed to do was visit our friendly homeless camps in the woods in our area.
She could have gone to Detroit.
I don't recall Chelsea having gone on a trip like this when she was in Sidwell, but it could have happened. I do remember as she got older, especially while at Stanford, that she seemed to miss an awful lot of school because of trips she took with her mother and/or father. We could never understand how she could take off so much time from her studies and keep her grades up.
Nothing seems to have changed with Chelsea, only now everything seems to come before real work.

They should have sent these kids to clean up after the Occupy Wall Streeters if they wanted them to do charitable work :-)
You are making unwarranted assumptions. 0 is breaking, stretching and bending the laws left and right, but we’re supposed to assume that the First Mooches are not grifting here as well?
