Couldn’t find any...settled for 3 pretzel sticks.
Bummer. Cookies sounds good right now.
I hear ya!!!! I was hoarding butter flavor Crisco before wedding. The last time (Christmas baking) I used Petef Pan honey roasted peanuts butter. Nits slightly sweeter and saltier and worked great a/peanut butter blossoms.
One of my pinochle friend’s husband (and their oldest son, when he was living at home) has a really sweet set up. The have a split entry, and he partitioned off the very back of their downstairs (family room) for his radio room. I recall it looked pretty impressive. My fear, that it’s expensive:(. But such a good idea...especially since Internet can be switched off
Can you use butter in place of shortening? It is more expensive but I’ve resorted to it when out of shortening and man, some recipes turned out exceptionally good.
That’s my concern, too.
When CB’s got popular in the 70’s, it was great because they were so cheap and license was nothing more than apply and pay.
We like our walkie talkies in the summer but the pair I have burn through batteries like no tomorrow. Need to look for something better or get rechargables. (Add to list of things to buy.)
Getting your license is basically free. Maybe ten bucks or something to the local who will administer your test. Sometimes that is wavied too IIRC.
Ham equipment doesn’t have to be expensive at all. Look around on EBAY or Craig’s list. I have a Radio Shack DX 150 that is wonderful but now in need of some repairs, I have to get a capacitor set...nuts. Of course that’s just for listening but it’s still enjoyable and worthwhile if the net is down.
I use a combination of both, when the recipe calls for it. I use butter - not margarine - exclusively other than that. I might try coconut oil instead of Crisco next time.
It is worthwhile! I might email it to Jim.
"Run America! (from tyranny) Run faster! Don't give up! Don't give in! Are you tired yet? RUN HARDER!"
You are good loving parents. Your daughter is a sweetie for helping you out. That’s what daughters do. Boys are way different, lol! They don’t think about those things until they get older.
I’m looking for free time to sit down and read all the posts and links you posted about Ham Radio. Maybe tonight. I’m taking a break from cookie baking for a few days.
I just read about the postman who delivered to Bill Ayers and wife. He said Obama was a foreign student. Did Quinn say when he’s going to be talking about that?
Sheriff Joe has his dogs sniffing everywhere! Go Sheriff Joe!
We got a battery charger from either hsn or qvc— Renuit-pro from Viatek that recharges alkaline batteries. Right now, it seems to be working as advertised. It’s going to save a LOT of money in the long run. It’s supposed to be good for about 70 recharges, I think.
Thanks for the tip..that will us a bundle...vacation fund.
Yes you can in almost all cases substitute butter...if a recipe calls for shortening I use just shortening, but if it calls for margarine & shortening I use the butter flavo Crisco for both. Margarine has changed over the years..now the “stick” types I swear have as much water as their tub recipes and cookies are too wet and blob when baking. so I stick with the higher fat content (just like me!!!) to make them come out right.
Ps, sneakers... I found that the cheapest was to buy Hershey kisses was at the bulk food candy aisle in Giant Eagle. For years. I bought the bags, but realized that savings back during Wedding Bakapalooza. Good luck to you...I know how much work your doing. Daughter’s wedding was in October of 2010 and that Christmas I backed out of cookie exchnge. I couldn’t face making “batches.”
Thanks, already planning on running to WallyWorld for one. I have one now but wrong size batteries.
