Why is President Obama so rattled by Newt Gingrich?

There are good reasons for Mr. Obama’s discomfort. First is the almost immediate hit to the president’s popularity when gasoline prices go up. Rightly or wrongly, Americans hold him accountable. In fact, the president is vulnerable on this topic.

He has consistently portrayed fossil fuels such as oil, coal and natural gas as energy products of the past while expressing an almost unimaginably naïve optimism about the potential of alternatives. His attachment to high-cost “green” energy has played well with environmentalists but for most of the country – the roughly 50% not concerned about global warming -- it is increasingly viewed as an expensive boondoggle.

President Obama’s enthusiasm for green tech is especially inappropriate in the midst of a recession. A new study has shown that mandates to use alternative energy now in place in 29 states – and proposed on a national scale by Mr. Obama – have caused electricity rates to soar. On average, those states are paying 32% more for electricity than their neighbors. This is a horrifying tax that is even now filtering through to businesses and households in states like California, which has lately adopted the most stringent mandates in the country. Nothing could retard our recovery faster than jacking up power rates across the country, but that is exactly what this president wants to do.

Obama further compounded his difficulties by blocking the Keystone XL pipeline. To be sure, the politically motivated decision will have no near-term impact on gasoline prices, but it surely furthers the narrative that the president has turned his back on oil and gas. And to what end?

Do we think that by refusing to allow transport of Alberta tar sands through our country those resources will not be produced? Nonsense. If we don’t buy this crude, the Chinese will.

Your tag line is interesting to say the least. Sarah Palin is a charsmatic emotional leader with great political instincts. But I am sorry she does not compare with Newt’s wisdom and intellect. Sarah would do well to study more and gain the type of knowledge Newt has. Then she would be unstoppable. Until she takes the time to broaden her knowledge of the world and history, she will continue to be an influencer only. Not a bad thing at all.

The reason they cling so tightly to the “good intentions” fallacy is the rejection of the truth of the nature of Man.

What is Man?
A “basically good” creature that just needs the right environment to thrive, or

a basically “fallen” creature who has no hope of salvation and needs the divine Savior?

Of course, if it’s the latter, then we’re all accountable to Him instead of just to ourselves and fellow man.
And this is why they reject the truth - accountability.

Hussein should feel relieved that the GOP elitists are on his side. There is NO way he will have to defend himself against Newt come election time.

Newt is at least twice as smart as Obama and liberals are afraid of him. Newt’s problem with moderates is that moderates are afraid to face the truth.

year after year.. my whole life actually, I have heard people complain about why no one runs who is actually competent.

And now we see why people that are competent like Newt don’t run.

We deserve our fate for our pettiness.

Well, I'm just spit-balling here, but it seems to be that the candidate who rattles obama the most NOW, is the one who can beat him in November...IMHO.

Everyone, well mostly everyone, agrees that Newt could whip obama in a debate. Newt’s biggest success has come out of debates during this election season. Only one thing wrong with wanting Newt to be the nominee in hopes that he will show obama for what he is during a debate. OBAMA WILL NOT DEBATE NEWT.

Yes, it really is that simple. obama may not realize it but his handlers certainly do and they would never allow a debate because they are aware that a debate between Newt and obama would turn the tide.

If there is no debate then all that is left is “Oh yea, well my candidate could whup your candidate in a debate” blah, blah, blah.... And a potent weapon is nullified. And then they can even turn it around and say that Newt refused to debate by setting impossible timelines or venues or what have you. It might even turn into a net positive for obama.

There you have it. That is what Newts strategy rests on. A debate that will not, can not, happen.

to be repeated as much/often as possible.

But such a debate is happening. It just isn't an official/formal debate, face to face on a stage and moderated by some liberal TV personality.

It is happening in cyberspace.

Newt fires a volley (like a complaint of high prices at the pump, the counterproductivity of Obama's Keystone policy, or the silliness, wastefulness, and impotence of Solyndra)...and Obama responds (however weakly).

Yes, there will never be a face to face debate...but with the Internet and 24/7 news reports and discussions, there doesn't have to be.

And yes...Newt is beating the crap out of Obama!

Respectfully disagree with the notion that the debate is taking place now. What is happening is the normal discouse that takes place during elections.

You cannot ignore the fact that an actual face-to-face debate would be a windfall to Newt and disaster for obama.

I like and agree with Newt but he will not gain a fraction of the converts that a debate would generate when obama fanitics are forced to hear his message.

The President just hates being challenged; being questioned. He must suffer from “only child” or “king baby” syndrome.

The Obama File

Go down about one quarter of the page and look at the picture.

"While a student in the late 1970s, Barack Obama carved his name in the pavement outside the cafeteria of Punahou School."

But such a debate IS happening.

You're absolutely right. Delicious, eh?

Newt has stepped right over the heap like the scene from Indiana Jones where he just shoots the guy with the knife.

Obama knows Newt's no mere knife wielder, and is not afraid to take Obama on, anywhere, anytime, scheduled debate or not.

Newt has Big Ideas that make sense and that he can articulate.

It isn’t just the debate issue.

Romney and Santorum, not so much.

Because unlike the Flipper, the Nut-bar and the Preacher, Newt is already debating Obama and Obama is losing.

Obama knows that if Newt pulls out the nomination, Obama’s days are over... and Newt would reverse all things Obama.... on day one.

Here's my take. If Romney were elected, Washington wouldn't get changed. Romney would add some glamour and a bit of respect to the office of President, but would he change Washington as it should be changed? The answer to that is evidenced by the support of Romney by the permenent elite political class. They want the party to continue unabated.

If Santorum were elected, the office of president would certainly gain some social stature, but I am not convinced that he can gain the support he will need of both parties to get much done. The jury is still out on whether he can lead at the level required for the job.

If Gingrich were elected, the Washington elite would shriek with fear because they would know that the party has ended. Gingrich has the tools and the knowledge needed for the monumental task of renewing America. He has the vision and the insight of history. Gingrich has met the evil liberal foe before and won.

This all is just my gut feeling, but is based on 62 years of living experience. As you get older you just see things more clearly.

The question is why are Santorum and Romney too stupid to think of this themselves.
