Did not see a thread started for tonight. About 50 mintues before polls close.
Tonight, it's important to keep track of the actual delegate count. Even though Romney will likely be projected the winner within 30 minutes, the delegate math will what's important.
Romney has solid leads in the 7 CD's in Northern IL/Around Chicago. These total about 19 Delegates
3 Congressional Districts covering North/Mid state are too close to call. These total about 9 Delegates.
Santorum's got the edge in the Downstate 8 Congressional Districts. These total about 26 Delegates.
Depending on how the 3 CD's swing, it is possible that Santorum could lose the popular vote, significantly, and yet still walk away with a split of the delegates.
Latest Projections:
Romney 45-46% Santorum 35-36% Gingrich 8-9% Paul 6-7%
In addition to 54 CD Delegates at state tonight, 12 are allocated based on whatever the IL GOP feels like doing. If they follow the statewide vote (but don't have to), looks like Romney would get about 8 or 9 and Santorum 3 or 4.
Romney has 2 Super's in IL alreedy pledged with 1 undecided.
Before I had this at a 47-22 split for Romney delegate wise. It's looking now that Santorum will in fact to better in Mid-Down state. Santorum may reduce it to a 39-30 or better split, and that would be a win because based on upcoming states, he's okay. The equivalent of getting to 30 would offset getting shut out of PR where Santorum would have gotten 6 delegates had he gotten 15% and held Romney under 50%.
It's all about the math now.
It is NOT about math.
It is about the lack of honor in Mitt Romney, the Spoiler.
Romney should pull out now, and save America.
He may be running a poor third in Illinois, but I put my votes in for Gingrich, anyway - I figure he has the least religious baggage and the intellect and ability to take 0bama down and be a very good president.
Poser backstabber at work:
"I bet you $10,000 I can glue this thing on the roof
of my wifes second Cadillac."
On the IL ballot, do you cast votes for both candidate and delegates or just the candidate?
The delegates today in downstate IL (9 Gingrich ones, said they would back Santorum)
Your link doesn’t go anywhere but to the search page.
No Link. This was a Thread starter for the IL GOP Live thread. You have to put something in there though. I guess most people just put in the FR homepage link. Is this an issue?
Yep. And they both should pull out now and let the convention pick a candidate who can defeat Obama.
Ok
Ok I heard and know that Freepers will inform me if this is true...If Romney gets less then 50% of the vote the delegates are proportional but if he gets 51% he gets all the delegates. So the goal is to make sure he does not get 50+% correct?
STOP throwing logic onto these threads. Please!!! :^D

You’re right, Diogenesis. And that’s what I say to people when they ask me why I won’t support Mittens, “HE HAS NO HONOR”..
This is usually followed by silence.
No.
All 18 CD’s are independent of each other, just like it was in MI.
However, IL is a “loophole” state. Meaning that Romney could take 90% in Chicago, but the elected delegates still choose to support Santorum, and Santorum could get 90% of downstate IL and the delegates still choose Romney.
This is why the news that Newt’s delegates in downstate would support Santorum was significant. Looking more likely Rick will get a split of the delegates when all is said and done.
“This is a so-called “Loophole” primary (a Delegate Selection Primary combined with an Advisory “beauty contest” presidential preference vote). The popular vote in the Illinois Republican Primary will have nothing whatsoever to do with the presidential preference of the 54 separately elected National Convention delegates.
Each candidate for delegate ... must file a Statement of Presidential Preference supporting a specific presidential candidate, or a statement that he/she intends to run uncommitted [SBE No. P-1E]. Note: There is no law or rule officially binding the delegates to the candidate.
Each of the State’s 18 congressional districts is assigned 3 to 4 National Convention delegates- the number of delegates assigned to each district being based on the relative strength of that district’s vote for the Republican presidential nominee in the previous Presidential election: a total of 54 district delegates to be directly elected by the voters and individually listed on the ballot with their presidential preferences indicated.

Hi -
There were three Gingrich delegates and two alternate Gingrich delegates - I selected them all, as well as Gingrich for the candidate - unfortunate if Gingrich delegates will back Santorum, but he’s probably preferable to Romney AFAIC.

Ah,sorry Charlie. Like it not, it is all about the math.
And please, don't shoot the messenger.
I don’t see how Romneycare and its doppelganger 0bamacare is going to do anything but hurt Romney in the general campaign unless he comes out strongly against it, which it seems he is unwilling to do.
Il voting procedure by former IL Reagan alt delegate me
You vote for the candidate and then you MUST vote for 1 delegate and 1 alt delegate of the candidate slate of delegates if he has or doesn’t have a slate. If that candidates delegate don’t carry (win) The district delegate which has the highest total becomes the assigned delegate from that district.
