We need some game-changer to turn things around. But what would that be?
************
I think you’re analysis is correct—
I think Newt’s strategy has been the same from day one— and it didn’t make for a good campaign.
In the 1st 16 debates (+/-), a poll showed that 50% who watched, considered him the clear winner- no one a close second.
That’s been his strategy— if he could just present himself- unfiltered- people would come to understand that he was the proper choice to lead the country in 2013. Rightly or wrongly, that’s what he believed.
So, his campaign having imploded in Fla- knowing right then and there- that no one could compete with Romney’s limitless funds— he sought to change the rules of engagement.
Since Romney would win through the primaries- the only alternative for Newt was to stop him from attaining the requisite majority- and create for himself another window ( in this case June through the convention) to set up an alternative national debate - where again he cold outclass his opponents, safe from Romney’s negative advertising.
Your captioned question- what will be the game changer- is just what Newt is hoping for (his only hope). Iran closing the straits, unrest in the ME, $6.00 gas over the summer— anything that would get the focus on the need for a leader and drive national interest to that potential debate.
Anyway, that’s what I think his play is.
you are right. Newt is counting on events intervening, his grassroots becoming more and more dedicated and effective, and finding a way to get his message out over the media, which is pretty much shutting him out now. It also helps when the Obama White House responds to him as though he were their equal... people are noticing that... I am helping them to notice that... :)
