Jimmy Carter supports same-sex ‘marriage’ as he launches his new Bible

ATLANTA, GEORGIA, March 20, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) – Former president Jimmy Carter has been strongly identified as a "Born Again" Christian and as a liberal Democrat for nearly five decades. He is once more blending those roles as he promotes "his" latest book, his own study Bible.

The NIV Lessons from Life Bible: Personal Reflections with Jimmy Carter contains the full text of the New International Version of the Bible and the former president’s prayers, reflections, and asides.

During his book tour to promote a study of the Scriptures, Carter mentioned he supports same-sex "marriage."

President Carter told Paul Brandeis Raushenbush, senior religion editor of The Huffington Post:

Homosexuality was well known in the ancient world, well before Christ was born and Jesus never said a word about homosexuality. In all of his teachings about multiple things – he never said that gay people should be condemned. I personally think it is very fine for gay people to be married in civil ceremonies. (Emphasis added.) However, he said he drew the line, “maybe arbitrarily, in requiring by law that churches must marry people."

"If a church decides not to, then government laws shouldn't require them to," he said, adding his own church accepts "gay members on an equal basis."

When Raushenbush pressed him about whether he believed the Bible is God’s word, Carter answered, "the basic principles of the Bible are taught by God, but written down by human beings deprived of modern day knowledge. So there is some fallibility in the writings of the Bible. But the basic principles are applicable to my life and I don't find any conflict among them."

"There are many verses in the Bible that you could interpret very rigidly," Carter said, "and that makes you ultimately into a fundamentalist."

"Fundamentalists," he wrote in his 2005 book Our Endangered Values, tend "to demagogue emotional issues" and "are often angry and sometimes resort to verbal or even physical abuse against those who interfere with the implementation of their agenda." Carter applied this term to figures as divergent as the Ayatollah Khomeini and Pope John Paul II,toatheist neoconservatives and his fellow Baptists.

He contended the "mandated subservience of women by Christian fundamentalists" contributes to the Islamic practice of female genital mutilation.

Carter wrote that he exchanged harsh words with the late Pope John Paul II during a state visit over what Carter classified as the Pope’s "perpetuation of the subservience of women." He added, "there was more harshness when we turned to the subject of 'liberation theology."

The former president, who has released recordings of the Sunday School classes he teaches and written previous books about the Bible, disassociated himself from the Southern Baptist Convention in 2000. He and former President Bill Clinton attempted to realign the Baptist faith in a more liberal direction by calling for a new Baptist convention in 2008. The formation of this new Baptist body, he wrote, constituted an "historic event for the Baptists in this country and perhaps for Christianity."

Carter, whose single term in office was marred by turbulence at home and abroad, has denounced those who disagree with his political views in strident terms.

Pro-lifers, Carter wrote, "do not extend their concern to the baby who is born." He instead suggested the nation support contraceptive sex education, taxpayer funding of international "family planning," and embryonic stem cell research.

In addition to nuptial vows, Carter encouraged the military to end the "Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell" policy in 2007, and in 2010, he told the website Big Think it was time to /www.lifesitenews.com/news/jimmy-carter-weve-had-a-black-president-now-its-time-for-a-gay-one">elect "a gay person" president.

Since Jimma is putting his deep thoughts down on paper I have my very own suggested bit o’wisdom he can have for free, claim it as his own and so forth.

“Lust in the heart is like kudzu on chocolate cake, dig deep enough and you can find some good in it”

“The difference ‘tween me and Billuh is the difference ‘tween peanuts and peanut butta, he's more fun but I'm favored by the toothless.”

I did not know that. Don’t we wish the media would differentiate, but they can’t because most don’t know what a real Christian or care.

Jimmah and Rozalind quit the traditional Baptist Church a decade or so ago due to their belief that homosexuality was a normal way for two same-sex perverts to achieve their filthy orgasms.

Something deeply flawed in the characters of these two.

Wonder how Amy’s doing?

“Creepy” is very appropriate for Carter. Also Obumu, Pelosi, Reid, Rahm, FranknDodd.
How is it you get to claim the moral high ground in words when you cherry-pick God’s teachings in actions?
This “progressive” attitude that the Bible and the Constitution are living documents - to be obeyed or altered as one desires - just negates hundreds and indeed thousands of years of the best of human thought. To believe that one’s personal opinion based on part-time study, notable only due to election to national office, is truly audacious in the extreme.

He contended the "mandated subservience of women by Christian fundamentalists" contributes to the Islamic practice of female genital mutilation.

He obviously has not read Ephesians 5:25-32 which teaches not just that the woman be submissive to the husbands authority, but that the husband love his wife like "Christ loved the church" ie. sacrificially, as He laid down His life for us. Somehow, I don't think Christ wanted us to mutilate our wives' genitalia.

It is not a slave that is commanded, but a recognition of authority in family matters, and with that authority, comes responsibility. Husbands are responsible for the spitual health of the family, the sanctification of his wife, and are held accountable by God. To compare Christian marriage and relationship with Islamic chattel owning is the height of duplicitous thinking, and from one who claims to be a Christian is intellectually dishonest.

The “Eveready Bunny” of Idiocy continues to march on...for some unknown reason.

Don't say "bunny". It scares Jimmah.

I finally figured out why Jimmy Carter has lived so long.

God certainly won't have him, and Satan's needing him to mellow a little on the evil, before he lets Carter in.

If people do not see that life, and this very election, is a spiritual battle between the forces of Satan (to destroy God’s people) and God’s people, they will never wake up. Morality is at the lowest point ever in America. This is a spiritual battle to so discourage the ones of us who are fighting for righteousness to give up and quit. But God tells us to put on the full armor of God and then to stand. I know many at freerepublic.com feel that morality has no place in the public discourse or in the election, but you could not be more wrong. What do you think laws are? Public mores. And we need to take this out of the hands of the left, who are passing their immoral laws faster than one can blink an eye. They have overturned every law of righteousness by making it appear to be ridiculous...and good Christians, even those who do not profess faith, but know there is a God, have not been prepared for the onslaught. Now we have Clinton and Carter to come along and basically say that belief in the True God requires throwing out His own Bible, and substituting it with theirs. Please pray along with me and many others who are praying for a spiritual renewal in America. Without that, there is no political solution to the mess we find ourselves in.

Many of us here have very little time left before our lives are over. To NOT do the right thing and rid the nation and the world of a platform for evil is tantamount to committing a sinful act!
