SANFORD, Fla. - More than 750,000 people have signed an online petition started by the parents of Trayvon Martin, who was shot and killed in Sanford by a neighborhood watch leader.
The change.org petition has attracted celebrities like Cher, Chad Ochocinco and Michael Moore, who have tweeted their support for the Martin family.
The online attention is garnering the support of more musicians, professional athletes, film industry representatives and numerous other celebrities online, all of whom are calling for justice in this death investigation.
Martin's parents, Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton, have called on Florida District Attorney Norman Wolfinger to bring charges against George Zimmerman, who Sanford police say shot and killed the17-year-old in self-defense.
A number of international celebrities have also taken to Twitter and Facebook to spread the word about the petition.
Musicians Wyclef Jean, Talib Kweli, Clay Aiken, Monica, Janelle Monae, and Raheem Devaughn; film leaders, including Spike Lee, Mia Farrow, Taraji P. Henson and D. L. Hughley have all tweeted their support.
Martin was shot and killed while walking from a store where he had just purchased a bag of Skittles and an iced tea for his younger step-brother. According to reports, Zimmerman called police to report a suspicious person after he saw Martin walking back from the store.
Despite police instructing him not to confront Martin, an altercation ensued. Witnesses say there was a scuffle before Zimmerman fired a shot, striking the teen in the chest.

I am amazed thaat anyone on this forum is expressing support toward the perp or animus toward the victim.

They should be brought to trial themselves. It is absolutely criminal how they have depicted this whole thing without knowing ot preesenting all the facts.
Not enough facts have been released for anyone to show support one way or the other yet. But that never stops these folks.

Actually, it was Zimmerman who was screaming for help. Trayvon was on top of him, beating him, according to a witness that called 911.
And according to the police who indicated that Zimmerman was bleeding about the face and head...and had grass stains on the back of his shirt.
Yep, recall the DC Sniper case. The cops were looking for white box trucks or white vans such as driven by electricians or plumbers.
And it turns out that John Mohammed was a Muslim. Though we’re not supposed to talk about any of that.
Why is it that if a black is a victim of a crime, it’s allegedly some racist plot? But if a black or minority of any kind, such as Muslim, is a perpetrator, we’re not supposed to make any connections as to motives or anything based on that?

It’s amazing how the press is intentionally presenting this as a poor little black child shot and killed by a racist white adult. It could not be further from the truth.

Yep. That is the way they are trying to make it sound. I was amazed how hard it was, even on the internet, to find any stories discussing the testimony of the witness that actually saw what was going on BEFORE the gun was fired. The guy on the bottom and screaming for help was Zimmerman, and he has the blood and the grass stains to prove it. Yet the press is silent. What gives?
If people like this ever gained power, they have just have Stalinesque Show Trials for people like Zimmerman.

Various sources have Martin as 6’3”, not the diminutive boy of the pictures that are being circulated of him. At 6’3”, I find it almost impossible that he would weigh 140 lbs as some are saying. At 17, I was 6’ 2” and a very lean and lanky 151 lbs when I entered basic military training.
Zimmerman is reported to have had a bloody nose, a bloody injury to the back of his head, and grass stains on his back consistent with struggling on his back while pinned from above.
As we learned from the “hockey dad” case from some years ago which some readers will recall, it matters not who intially was the aggressor—once either individual gains the advantage and acts as to threaten death or serious bodily harm on another, THEY become the actual aggressor, and deadly force to defend ones’ self against them is justified.
Many say that the 911 dispatcher instructed Zimmerman not to follow Martin, but that isn’t actually what was said—the dispatcher merely said, “We don’t need you to do that.” Meaning, exactly, that it wasn’t necessary, and also that it wasn’t explicitly prohibited.
The 911 tapes I’ve heard also have Zimmerman saying repeatedly that Martin was coming toward him, advancing on him.
Frankly, the lens through which our society views events like this is badly distorted. When the “Jena 6” nearly beat the young white boy to death in Louisiana a couple of years ago and were charged, the blacks went crazy and staged massive national protests, besieged the town of Jena, and then brought the Jena 6 onstage at the BET Awards to be given a standing ovation and heralded as heroes.
I’ve worked in the ghetto long enough to have had my life threatened by aggressive, hateful, racist blacks, especially young ones, with various weapons and with various items that they wanted me to think were weapons so as to intimidate me. On one occasion, a black kid stuck what at first appeared to be the muzzle of a pistol up to my car window, inches from my head—it turned out to be a metal cigarette lighter. I cannot relate here how often similar situations took place when working the door of nightclubs in the ghetto, when trying to keep order standing my post at an all-night convenience store/gas station in the ghetto...I even had a co-worker who had no other option but to shoot and kill an unarmed young black man who attacked him and went for my coworker’s gun when my co-worker, as a uniformed officer, had to force a group of rowdy blacks to leave an all-night restaurant upon the request of the manager at 3 a.m.; my co-worker and the man he shot wound up on the ground, rolling around and struggling to see who would wind up with the gun. My co-worker is only alive because he managed to get the muzzle under the guy’s chin and get a shot off.
It sounds like Zimmerman was merely trying to do what we need more citizens to do, because the media and “authorities” refuse to address and remedy to out-of-control rate of black crime that prevails in certain areas. The media ignores and even covers up ENDLESS savage, wanton, racially motivated black-on-white crime, deliberately, every day. I am interested in having the truth told.
