In the interest of fairness, I feel compelled to point out that Gore did not claim to have “invented” the internet per se. He took credit for pushing legislation through that enabled the internet to be developed.....or something like that.

Al Gore is depicted perfectly in the South Park series, pretending to fly around with a cape and looking for man-bear-pig. It is the image that always comes to my mind when I think of him now....pretty funny stuff.
