One problem: Rick Santorum never said he would ‘rather have Barack Obama as president’
Daily Caller ^ | March 23, 2012 | Matt K. Lewis

Rick Santorum is getting grief — even from some of his supporters — for saying we’d be better off sticking with Barack Obama.

The only problem is…he didn’t say that.

Here’s what Santorum actually said:

“You win by giving people a choice. You win by giving people the opportunity to see a different vision for our country, not someone who’s just going to be a little different than the person in there. If you’re going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk with what may be the Etch A Sketch candidate of the future,” Santorum told a crowd at USAA.

Santorum is a horrible public speaker. He need training and a speech writer. His main problem is that he is too arrogant to do either.

He’s too busy backtracking and clarifying to hire speech writers.

I didn’t hear Rick say it. But, if the quote you posted is accurate, I see no other way to interpret what he said. Maybe he didn’t mean it. Maybe it was meant to be hyperbole. He probably wishes he hadn’t said it. But, none of that changes the fact that he said it.

By the way, Sen. Santorum has been my choice since Herman Cain was shamed into quitting. I served as Santorum’s captain for my precinct in the Iowa Caucus. I’ve contributed to his campaign a number of times, as recently as 4 days ago. So, obviously, I wish he hadn’t said it.

And, as I posted last night, there are a LOT of people here on FR who have said much the same thing; if it’s Romney vs. Obama, they will vote for some third-party rather than hold their nose for Romney, even if they know that means Obama wins.

The facts don’t matter, only headlines matter it seems.

Some people on FR are completely crazy. I hope they just post crazy shit like “the GOP elite will get what they deserve” if Obama is re-elected, but will actually act like a sane person when they vote. Otherwise kiss America goodbye. This county will survive President Romney and may even prosper, but will not survive another 4 years of Obama and his Marxist cabal. If some people around here are too stupid to see that, then I guess its just time to stock up on ammo and clean water and get ready for the storm.

He said it, he owns it. I did admit I can’t stand him. I like his conservatism on social issues and that’s about it. I would vote for him over Romney, luckily I didn’t have to, Newt was on the FL ballot and I voted for him. I would vote for anyone over the Kenyan.

I have two working theories about those “crazy” people:

Maybe their hope is that, if the Republican Establishment sees enough of us taking that “NO ROMNEY, NEVER!” stand, they’ll come to their senses and fix the convention to give us a conservative nominee.

Or, maybe they think 4 years of Obama Unleashed is what it’s going to take to bring about the real Conservative Revolution this country has needed for a very long time.

All theories aside, what I do know is, with a few exceptions, they tend to be angry, bitter, holier-than-thou and visceral regarding their views vs. anyone else’s.

I have plenty of ammo and water. Do you?

No Romney, EVER!

He said that independent voters would see two liberal candidates and choose the one who seems more authentically liberal.

Why give them more with a stupid comment that will achieve nothing? He should know better and if he doesn’t he needs to go home.

It's all in the script, but the latter bit of gamesmanship must have really yanked Santorum by the short hairs, because all things being equal, he had a historical argument for the first ask

I think Santorum will walk his comments back and Romney will offer him the VP slot.

Thanks for the link.

So, what we have here, in the article posted above, amounts to someone desperately trying to put the toothpaste back in the tube.

The irony of that post. If you want to see whining, look at your incessant, obsessive, anti-Santorum posting history.

Unlike genius Nootie-noot-noot? Idiot like Eisenhower next to Stevenson? Bush next to Kerry? Dole next to Clinton? McCain next to Obama?
With great degrees comes great arrogance.

I disagree, Fred. IMO, Santorum is actually the best speaker of the three when he focusses on big issues/principles. Of course any candidate could stand to improve their skills.

I guess it's in the ear of the listener.

Everyone involved in that ‘76 campaign cite the move to make Schweiker the VP the reason they lost the floor fight. Why did Reagan do it? To appease moderates and RINO’s. It never works.
