Gay Marriage Effort Attracts a Novel Group of Donors ADAM NAGOURNEY and BROOKS BARNES March 23, 2012
LOS ANGELES On a warm Friday afternoon three years ago, Rob Reiner, the director, arrived for lunch at the Beverly Hills estate of David Geffen, the entertainment mogul. Mr. Reiner and his political adviser, Chad H. Griffin, had spent six months drafting an ambitious legal campaign aimed at persuading the United States Supreme Court to establish a constitutional right of same-sex marriage.
Mr. Reiner, joined by Mr. Griffin and Mr. Reiners wife, Michele, told Mr. Geffen they would need $3 million to challenge Proposition 8, a California voter initiative approved the previous November banning same-sex marriage. He informed Mr. Geffen that they had recruited two renowned lawyers, David Boies, a Democrat, and Theodore B. Olson, a Republican, to argue the case.
Our feeling is not to go state by state, Mr. Reiner said. Our strategy is to make this wind up in the United States Supreme Court and have this a settled issue for all time.
Mr. Geffen asked few questions as they sat in the dining room off his screening room, with a sweeping view down his sculptured estate. He agreed before the dessert arrived to raise the money. I said Id give them half the money and raise the other half, Mr. Geffen recalled. Mr. Geffen wrote a check for $1.5 million and asked Steve Bing, a friend and producer, to make up the rest.
That lunch was a milestone in the dramatic evolution of a behind-the-scenes fund-raising network whose goal is to legalize same-sex marriage from coast to coast. This emerging group of donors is not quite like any other fund-raising network that has supported gay-related issues over the past 40 years. They come from Hollywood, yes, but also...

Just like abortion, the ends justify the means to these bas*****. Damn the Constitution, just force their will on everyone.
Constitutional rights of things not in the Constitution, makes no sense.
I thought his wife's name was Gloria.

This is what the Left always does. It packs the federal judiciary with their guys and the nation is changed forever. A second term Obama (God forbid) might see a flurry of gay appointees to the federal courts and even to the Supreme Court. We saw what occurred with the gay federal district judge re Prop.8. More than anything else, the biggest issue facing voters is the federal judiciary. But it gets little attention in the MSM and even on FR while the sinister forces of abortion (NARAL and Planned Parenthood, EMILYs LIST) and GLBT mass their troops on the federal judiciary.
But, meathead, what if you get to the Supreme Court, and the Supreme Court decides there is NOT a constitutional right to homosexual marriage?
Or, consider this meathead. What if the court upholds the preliminary ruling of the 9th circuit, but just applies this to California? Based on the arguments and issues discussed in the 9th circuit ruling, it was more about how Calif. voted on Proposition 8 after same-sex marriage was legalized by court order, and not so much about an unalienable right to homosexual marriage. So the Supreme Court could uphold the ruling, but just apply it to California.
So if that happens, Meathead’s strategy of getting 50 state homosexual marriage through the U.S. Supreme Court could fall short.
I’m with you on the issue of the courts. That’s why it’s important to elect conservatives to all levels of elective office. The Senate is key, because appointees to the courts have to be confirmed by the Senate. The more conservatives in the Senate, the harder it will be for Obama to appoint uber-liberals, if he does get re-elected.
But, let’s also remember Obama’s questionable recess appointments to appointive jobs. Could a 2nd term Obama, drawing on precedent he set, appoint judges and not wait for Senate confirmation?
I hate to be paranoid, but, Obama got away with those questionable recess appointments. What if he does it again, but this time, with federal court judges?
Mehlman...another example of Bush’s bad judgment.
Here it goes one more time ,,,
Simplicity 101 for DUmmies

“...Mr. Reiner and his political adviser...”
Meathead has a “political advisor”? Who knew?
>> “5) problem solved on their terms” <<
.
6) Not so fast; the Lord is not allowing us that many more generations.
Daniel’s 70th sabbath may start in 2023, or 2030 by the latest. Just look around at reality.
National campaign to destroy traditional marriage, crush it, obliterate, redefine it into oblivion. With the help of the RINO Ken Mehlman.
Welcome polygamists, incest, bestiality practitioners, pedophiles. Why not? They love each other, too. It’s all about love, love, love.

25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.
26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as “normal, natural, healthy.”
They are still hard at work today.....
Archie was exactly right.
