SANFORD — Members of the New Black Panther Party are offering a $10,000 reward for the "capture" of George Zimmerman, leader Mikhail Muhammad announced during a protest in Sanford today.
The bounty announcement came moments after members of the group called for the mobilization of 5,000 black men to capture George Zimmerman, the Neighborhood Watch volunteer who shot Trayvon Martin last month.
The New Black Panthers will hold a protest in Sanford just before 1 p.m. today, the activist group's third protest in the past two weeks over the fatal shooting of the Miami Gardens teen.
The group called for Zimmerman's arrest and threatened to find and detain him if police were not willing to do so. But group members didn't call for the mobilization of thousands until Saturday.
Muhammed led the group in chanting "Justice for Trayvon!" and "Black Power!"

I miss the Old Black Panther Party. I knew Eldridge after he returned from Cuba, turned conservative and was promptly ostracized by the wealthy liberals who had previously supported him (see Tom Wolfe’s late 60s reports, Radical Chic and so on.) Ran for Congress, lost, died penniless.
Sadly he hates the U.S. more than he hates his white side.

I’ve been wondering why the local police didn’t arrest

I fear he may be right.
I have relatives in Jacksonville and I'm familiar with the area. I pity the fools that start this kind of activity there.
I know that if I lived anywhere near Zimmerman, I'd be cowboying up and I wouldn't so much as go out to check the mail without a long gun and a sidearm at hand.

The Police have already said there is a lot of infortmation that hasn't been released to the public. What we do know is that the weapon and holster were located on his waistband. That was reported by Officer Smith who was there on the scene.
Aiming isn't too much of a problem with someone at point blank range, and one doesn't cooly need to reach for something when after a few seconds of being knocked around, you realize that some relief is at your fingertips. The desire to stop the puches by covering your face isn't as great as the desire to end it by reaching for your weapon.
None of us know enough about the details to form an opinion as to how it might have played out in real time.

The word “coolly” was tongue in cheek. Still, when somebody is pounding you with his fist, you have to free one hand to reach for the gun, opening yourself to more hits.
And since we've pretty much already established that, in what way does it make Zimmerman's account any less believable
I would expect there was a struggle for the gun. The gun only fired the round in the chamber. The magazine was full. I would expect Trayvon’s hand to be slightly cut by the slide if he was trying to take the gun away.
If Trayvon’s hand was cut, Zimmerman saved Trayvon from committing a federal felony, the possession of a gun while under age.
