DOJ charges release of ‘Gunwalker’ reports impedes investigations

“The latest twist in the tug of war over Department of Justice documents central to the investigation of Operation Fast and Furious came Friday evening, when a top Justice official refused a congressional request for subpoenaed documents and blamed GOP lawmakers over the leaking of sensitive information,” CNN reported Friday.

In a letter to Rep. Darrell Issa, R-California, and Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, Assistant Attorney General Ronald Weich suggested that sensitive information relating to ongoing investigations is coming from their staffs.

“Late Friday, Department of Justice Assistant Attorney General Ron Weich warned Issa, ‘We are deeply disturbed that the sensitive law enforcement information…has entered the public realm,’” William La Jeunesse of Fox News revealed. Advertisement

He said it is impeding the DOJ’s prosecution of current criminal cases arising from Fast and Furious.

A Congressional spokesperson for Issa made no apologies, saying the documents being leaked to the committee “are precisely what the Justice Department is hiding and what congressional investigators are seeking – basic information about who knew what when about Fast and Furious.”

Weich was the Justice Department official who claimed in a Feb. 4, 2011 letter to Sen. Grassley that “the allegation…that ATF ‘sanctioned’ or otherwise knowingly allowed the sale of assault weapons to a straw purchaser who then transported them to Mexico—is false.”

“I also want to assure you,” Weich wrote in the letter obtained by Mike Vanderboegh of the Sipsey Street Irregulars blog and Gun Rights Examiner, “that ATF has made no attempt to retaliate against any of its agents regarding this matter.”

This was the letter that was later formally withdrawn—a remarkable, almost unprecedented occurrence—due to “inaccuracies,” meaning it was not truthful.

Vanderboegh* and this column have obtained a copy of this latest Weich letter, posted in this correspondent’s Scribd account

That fact should be adjudicated by a court, not DOJ.

Should have read "That DOJ statement" vs "That fact".

There is a reason why we have special prosecutors.

At this point they are openly obstructing Congress.

What would happen if we didn’t have a Justice Department? If Congress voted to suspend funding?

As far as I know - nothing. They don’t add value. What is going to happen - more drugs? Anyone who wants some can get anything they want.

What else do they do? Sue states on bogus Civil Rights cases? Investigate schools - for the same?

They are clearly corrupt - all the way to the top. What is the point of paying for a corrupt law enforcment agency? To fund corruption?

I just looked on their website - 2 of the 8 things emphasized - on their home page - is an add for the Affordable Care Act, and the Recovery Act, and “Justice en Espagnol”.

They have an Environmental DIvision, a Tax Division, A Civil Rights division - a solicitor general, legal counsel, community relations, office of violence against women - etc.

Screw this. How about - Justice for us? What a disgrace.

I don’t see a single thing productive Americans can’t do without.

No surprise to find out that Holder’s marching orders are:

“Admit nothing, deny everything, make counter accusations.”

“I also want to assure you,” Weich wrote ... “that ATF has made no attempt to retaliate against any of its agents regarding this matter.”

Quite a number of your agents disagree with that.

DOJ knew is was home free late last year when Issa did not ask for perjury charges against Holder.

We still don't even know who authorized F&F.

Until pubbies get over the fear of being called racist by the Obama-media, our country will continue its slide into th abyss.

Republicans are impeding the Democrats while investigating themselves.

Remarkable. Maybe I can investigate myself if I get into trouble.
Boner, are you there? Boner? Paging house leader Boner.

It’s time the GOP quits blasting them with hot air and actually do something. How about throwing some of them in jail for refusing to comply with a congressional subpoena?

No. That’s not going to happen due to the “go along to get along” party’s credo and the fact that all they have done over the past years is nothing, other than blasting away with some heavy words and strict compliance to the rules of Political Correctness.

Awhile back Issa was going to force the DOJ to comply with another subpoena and where did that go?

Issa and Grassley must be hitting the bullseye for this wall of cow pies to be thrown up against them in hopes of intimidating them to "leave us alone, you big doodie heads!" and "Wah, wah, wah!"

You go, Representative and Senator!

Indicting criminals in the DOJ and White House trumps indicting a drug lord in Mexico.

The Democrat Party is a criminal enterprise
