"Zimmermann" means "carpenter" in German.
and I’m advised that in Florida, “cracker” refers to original colonial-era English and American pioneer settlers of what is now the U.S. state of Florida, and their descendants. So that’s not accurate either.
I guess the public schools need to spend more time teaching racial hatred and bigotry so these sign-makers can get their references correct /sarc
I’ve been wondering too where people are coming up with the idea that Zimmerman is a Jewish name. A person could be Jewish and have that name, but not all, and probably not many, Zimmermans are Jewish. Hence, to call it a Jewish name makes no sense.
I was taught it meant "hosteler," as in "innkeeper." "Zimmer" is German for "room," so a Zimmer-mann would be a "room-man," or one who keeps rooms for let.
Jesus was a Zimmermann? So was Bob Dylan.
