They are. On an ABC radio news report this morning, they were reporting on this, and the fiction-reporter said “Evidence is turning up that may support the idea that Zimmerman’s testimony MAY ACTUALLY BE TRUE!”

And they actually emphasized those words, to let everybody know they were SHOCKED, because they too ready to lynch him, but (DAMMIT!!!) those pesky facts got in the way.

They are backing away big time.

Yes, its a partial report. It does not mention a initial round, it doesn't mention if the gun is loaded. Nothing. The officers didn't ask GZ any questions, it wasn't there job to do any of that.

The current race/ethnicity check list has two categories: the first is to check whether or not one considers oneself Hispanic/Latino, the second contains everything else. So by this one could be Hispanic/Latino and Japanese, as many from Brazil (that has the largest Japanese population outside Japan) and Chile could describe themselves.

According to the NY Times (I don't have the link) he's White Hispanic.
Now technically that's true, he is half Caucasian and half Hispanic. But we don't call Obama white black. You're only white Hispanic when the Times wants a shooter to be a white guy. He looks Hispanic, just as Obama looks black.

So, if we're going to use their criteria (dad's first, then mom's), Zero would be a black Caucasian. If you want to know how ridiculous white Hispanic is, just apply the same criteria to Zero, and that's what you get. Black Caucasian. It's an idiotic way to label, but for those looking for racism (as you say, they want the shooter to be white), no stone too small to leave unturned.

The description about the struggle for the gun is what I read too. If that’s what happened, we have a shooting to defend one’s life. Case closed.
