Santorum: I Would Run as Romney’s VP

With his chances of gaining the GOP nomination slipping, Rick Santorum said on Monday that, if asked, he would consider an offer to be Mitt Romney’s running mate in the fall general election.

The former senator from Pennsylvania responded “of course,” when David Brody asked him the question during an interview for the Christian Broadcasting Network.

All this saber rattling in the Santantrum cult, will be for nothing. Santo won't make it past the end of April.

Wisconsin will likely go to Romney, as will the other big WTA April primaries. At that point, their money and their support will dry up in just days.

WATCH THE VIDEO INTERVIEW (click) before you pass judgment, FRiends. I thought Santorum's answer to the question was appropriate. Though an answer of "Hell, no." would have been amusing, being insulting would have worked against him. It was a good and positive response.

Romney would have to have a true conservative to balance the ticket, but Santorum ain't it. Marco Rubio would stand far and above anyone else, in every way. He will be President someday!

Santorum is no radical socialist. Not even close. In fact, he voted with conservatives 88% of that time during his 14 years in congress.

Meaningless statistics when they vote 6 times on the same socialist issue by voting against it 5 times and then voting for passing the bill the 6th time. He is a fiscal socialist who and a pork-baron.

To be fair, Newt said that he would consider it also, while making it clear that he really didn’t think that it would be offered. I think the point that other Newt supporters are trying to make here is that Santorum supporters have been bashing Newt for being “unprincipled” while holding Rick up as a paragon of conservative consistency (projecting on to him what they want him to be). Truth is, they are both pragmatists that see the writing on the wall and are just trying to do ANYTHING to keep it from being a total victory for the establishment.

Don't worry, the usual malcontents on this forum will take their marbles home from the playground to pout because they did not get their way AGAIN.

And the rest of us will support the nominee with great hope, like we did in 2008. In McNasty’s case, he just quit on us in the middle of the race, which is why Obama strolled into the White House, with nothing to offer but a grin on his face.

If Romney gets it, at least he will make a strong effort and focus on Obama’s record with out letting up. It worked for him in the primary, so he will likely use it again, with a positive effect for our side.

Get ready for Romney to announce his choice of either Ryan or Rubio for VP. Newt will likely be offered a very powerful cabinet position. Any combination of this kind, would greatly lessen the blow of a Romney Presidency.

Santo will be left behind at the gate. His hot headed, whiny personality is just not suited for being a leader in Government.

Assuming he is correct about nothing changing under a Romney presidency, I think I agree with him. - as long as an Obama re-election is concurrent with republicans retaining control of the house and/or regaining control of the senate.

In my opinion, the absolute WORST case scenarios would be, in (slightly) descending order of 'awfulness':

1) Obama as president with democrat control of both houses of congress.

2) Romney as president with republican control of both houses of congress.

Would you consider the video of the interview from the Brody File on their website as being accurate? If so then the only thing in question is who is the "HE" that Brody is asking about when the question is put to Santorum.

Okay. Fine. You are literally correct. Rick Santorum made no specific reference to Mitt Romney when he said he would accept the VP slot on a republican ticket. But let's take a realistic look at who he might have been thinking about when he made his comments.

You, yourself have stated that "Newt is not going to win anything", so obviously Mr. Santorum would not have been seriously thinking about being Newt Gingrich's VP pick. So, with Mr. Gingrich out of the picture, who other than Romney has a realistic chance of winning the republican presidential nomination?

Mr. Santorum could win it himself I suppose, but then he would not need to worry about being the VP on someone else's ticket, would he? Okay. NOt Gingrich. Not Santorum himself. Who else, other than Romney, might Mr. Santorum have been thinking about when he said he'd accept an offer to be VP on a republican ticket? Ron Paul?

I don't think so. Sometimes it's not too hard to figure out what someone is saying, even if they decide not to come right out and say it. Deciding not to specifically mention Romney's name in his statement may seem to give Santorum some measure of 'plausible deniability', but it defies logic to try to claim he wasn't referring to Romney when he made the statement.

Yes, but why would Santorum be SO vitriolic in his attacks on Romney? If he was aiming for Vice President I would think he’d be a bit more measured in his tone toward the possible nominee.

For what it’s worth, I don’t think Santorum is going through all this to be Vice President. I think he really really really really wants to be President. Just like all of them.

Yep, “HE” could be a lot of people but when the Brody File Show airs this week we’ll know for sure who the “HE” is that is being asked about.
