Pro-life 'October Baby' rejected by major studios, blitzes box office

The Hunger Games” wasn’t the only film to hit box office paydirt this past weekend. Although it only opened in 390 theaters, the anti-abortion drama “October Baby,” starring John Schneider, earned the second-highest-per-screen average, bringing in almost $2 million in ticket sales.

“I was shattered when I first learned about the story. I was moved and mesmerized. I wasn’t an activist, I was just someone who was shattered by the truth,” director Jon Erwin told FOX411’s Pop Tarts. “Here is our little film, small budget, in the top ten (at the box office). We are thrilled, blown away.”

“October Baby” follows the emotional journey of a young woman who learns that she was almost aborted, but at the last minute was instead given up for adoption. The film almost didn’t see the light of day.

“This film couldn’t find a home, no studio wanted to touch it. It was considered too controversial,” Erwin continued. “There was a real moment of despair at one point, the film wasn’t finished and nobody would take a look at it. But every time we screened it, it attracted such intense emotional reactions. So we had to raise the money ourselves, and the release process took much longer than we wanted.”

October Baby has earned laudatory reviews from two of my favorite movie-review sites: Christian Spotlight on Entertainment and Movieguide.org.

Exactly right! And that makes the low rating (still stuck at 4.3) all the more incongruous.

I've looked at the ratings for some “controversial” leftist movies, to see if they got a higher rating with a similar distribution of votes. They got higher ratings — but, the votes were a bit more evenly distributed. (Say 25% 10s, rather than O.B.’s 52% 10s.) IMDB’s weighting algorithm clearly heavily discounts 10’s and 1’s. Anyone who wishes to boost the score should vote “7” or “8”. If the score stays low, even when the votes are less bimodal (more widely distributed), then the only remaining explanation is bias on the part of IMDB staff.

Many new theaters will be added on April 13, including in Virginia: Bristol, Norfolk and Roanoke.

I was finally able to see the movie today. Great Movie! I thought it was better and more powerful than Bella and I thought Bella was a very good movie! They must have been cutting onions in the theater I saw it in, as my eyes got very watery during the movie...

The previews before this movie showed what trash is polluting the minds of children.

There was a preview for a very violent movie called Snow White and the Huntsman.

This was a product of Disney Studios (Touchstone Pictures).

The Theater chain that showed the movie only committed after a crisis pregnancy clinic committed to purchase 750 tickets in case that many were not sold.

Then the theater chain moved the theater from one location in my city to another.

But another theater chain is also showing this movie in our area.

Local churches are promoting the movie...
