Senate Republicans want to alter DREAM Act legislation to steal away Hispanic voters from Democrats.
Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.), the only Senate Republican of Hispanic heritage and a possible vice presidential pick, is working on an alternative version of the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act, which would grant legal status to illegal immigrants who came to the country at a young age and serve in the military or attend college.
He declined to provide any details, but confirmed he hopes to have legislation soon.
I dont have any specifics to announce yet, said Rubio. This stuff has to be done responsibly. Were working toward that and hopefully very soon. Sens. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) and Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) are also working on a bill, although its details are being kept secret, according to congressional sources. Senate sources expect it to be unveiled after GOP front-runner Mitt Romney has clinched the presidential nomination. A spokeswoman for Hutchison declined to comment, while a spokesman for Kyl did not respond to several requests for comment.
The efforts have unnerved Democratic leaders, who are watching warily Democrats see their advantage over Republicans among Hispanic voters as one of the partys greatest strengths in November.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) highlighted the worries when he warned Hispanic business leaders last week to not buy into GOP efforts on immigration and other issues ahead of the election.

I got mine - woohoo!!!
Oh, you're talking about elections...
“I suspect that if we got rid of illegals, we would lose a considerable number of democrat congressional districts.”
You are SO right, cripplecreek.
What does 20 million people actually look like?
[snip]the equivilent of adding over 17 more states to this country.....And thats not even considering chain migration
Please look at what giving amnesty to as many as 20,000,000 illegal alien foreign nationals actually represents. More than the population of 16 states and DC!
According to the 2000 census, 18,785,867 is the total populations combined of Wyoming, Dist. of Columbia, Vermont, Alaska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Delaware, Montana, Rhode Island, Hawaii, New Hampshire, Maine, Idaho, Nebraska, West Virginia, New Mexico and Nevada.
THINK about that!

We’re fighting a losing battle of our own making.
Imagine how different America would be today if we had 40 or 50 less democrats in congress over the last decade.
“Were fighting a losing battle of our own making.”
I think you’ve been trying to reason with those in our own ranks as long as I have on this issue, we tried!

Yes, you would think that the GOP and some of it’s open border race-baiting tools like Norquist, McCain and too many on FR would get that through their thick sculls...but then, who knows what there real agenda is.
White Hispanics preferred.
lol. A prize for timeliness.
And there have been FReepers wanting Rubio to be the VP pick?
Imagine what we would get in the way of waves of immigration if it were Romney/Rubio.
