MINNEAPOLIS — Speakers at a gathering in Minneapolis to remember slain Florida teen Trayvon Martin said his death should be a rallying cry for racial justice in the country.

Hundreds of people rallied in a University of Minnesota courtyard Thursday evening showing solidarity with others around the country who are protesting over the death of the 17-year-old who shot and killed as he walked to his father's home by George Zimmerman. Zimmerman claims he shot the teen in self defense.

People in the crowd held signs that read "Justice for Trayvon" and "hoodies up" — a reference to the hooded sweatshirt Trayvon Martin was wearing the night he died. They repeated chants of "peace," "justice," and "enough." Many in the crowd wore a hoodie.

Speakers said Martin's death is one of many that never make the news. Instead, they said black men are portrayed as suspects.

Minneapolis rapper Brother Ali told the crowd that he and other whites need to be honest that they benefit from and are safer because of their race. Ali told the crowd his white complexion allows him to go anywhere he wants to, wearing a hoodie.

"Somebody decided that you have to have membership in a specific race, in a specific culture. That you had to be a male, you had to be straight, in order to be a human being," Ali said. "When we accepted that; when we accepted that not everybody's humanity is valid, we accepted that our own humanity was invalid as well. And so if we want to get anywhere, we have to be honest with ourselves."

The crowd cheered when Ali said people who do nothing to change racism in America are buying into an unjust system.

The Rev. Devin Miller of Emmanuel Tabernacle Church of God In Christ in Minneapolis called for people to use tools like social media to demand justice.

"It doesn't stop with just a rally about Trayvon Martin. We are putting people on notice: you mess with one of our young people and we will bring the people to you," Miller said.

Thousands rally at U of M for Trayvon Martin - March 29, 2012 - Attorney Jacob Frey spoke for Protect Minnesota, an anti-gun violence group. "It was not a hooded sweatshirt that killed Trayvon. It was a gun," Frey said. "We have the responsibility to make sure that they do not have guns in their hands. How many people must die before we put an end to gun violence? Make Trayvon the last!"

The predator underclass is furious that their prey are shooting back.

“Justice” = only criminals can have guns.

A thug, masquerading as a caring person.

Referring to Miller.

All these demonstrations, justifying resort to criminal conduct. The media, the president, numerous politicians, all elevating the commission of a crime into sainthood.

The Legend of Saint Skittles is that of turning criminal conduct into exemplary conduct.

These rallies around the country are another manifestation of the Occupy Wall Street movement. The Left is trying to motivate its base. Would not be surprised to see a big May Day celebration this year. Theme will be how “essential” it is to reelect Obama. Get ready.

The liberals have found their trumped-up charge and will ride it until elections are over.

I wonder what the white liberal sellouts would do if they saw a 6’2” over two hundred pound black man wandering around their homes?

It is the white liberal media that has been portraying yound black men as murderers, pimps, rapists, and drug dealers for years, as well as Hollywood (New Jack City). How many black astors are there? Very few. How many have won an oscar? Maybe 2 or 3...maybe. All blacks have been stereotyped by Hollywood.

The liberal media cannot wait to spread the newa when blacks kill eachother. The headlines SCREAM the news, so is it any wonder we feel fear and distrust when we see a young black man in a hoodie walking aimlessly through our neighborhoods, no.

The liberal media and Hollywood are to blame for Martins death thanks to their stereotyping of young black men.

After reading Trayvon’s tweets, seems he fit the stereotype.

Right now, agitators affiliated with the “Occupiers” are trying very hard to stimulate race riots on this pretext. And while they might have some limited success in some of the big cities, I suspect that local authorities and the public are far less inclined to be victimized by rioters right now.

The vast majority will be small groups or gangs that attack people of the kind they hate, intentionally selecting individual victims who look vulnerable. Less frequently will be dynamic raiding parties that attack many people at public events, like the state fair raids of last year, and the group looting and vandalism of a single store.

Large riots will almost certainly be “event based”, like the Rodney King riots that came about after the acquittal of police officers at trial. If Mr. Zimmerman is taken to trial and acquitted, it will most certainly lead to planned rioting.

Otherwise, while the Occupy agitators are hoping to lure race rioters into their numbers, this is unlikely, because the bulk of their supporters want nothing to do with “those people” who want to race riot.
